Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

That is how I live too, for reference, in a city apartment with lots of other routers in range.

I'd recommend getting some dignal boosters or cheap routers to put into more rooms to boost the signal of your wireless network at home.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Has anyone tried running a IPS speed test using the Y2Pro(blem) and comparing it to a normal laptop?  I’m struggling to get 0.5 Mbps on the Y2Pro(blem) but my old $300 cheapo ASUS runs at almost 7 Mbps, I’ve tested this loads of times now, same location, same router, with the same results.

Even with the USB 3.0 hub unplugged it is under 0.5 Mbps, even tried wrapping the cable around a ferrite core off a VGA cable on the USB input cable, no difference.

I was just thinking I'll have to get a WiFi USB adapter if I ever want to use this laptop online, or replace the internal card or either that or drop test it from my 8th floor apartment!!  Just called Lenovo and they recommend returning the Laptop, living in Chile means if I’m lucky possibly sending to Peru where they cover international warrantee…

Yes, my Y2P gets the same speed on my latest N router as my ethernet speed cap (~27MB download, 5MB upload).  My older G-router, which is connected in series with the main router and provides a connection for my bedroom desktop computer also serves as WiFi "booster" there and caps WiFi speeds at around 15 MB/s, which is normal for it.  Same results on my Surface RT tablet, which has an AC adapter and can use the 5GHz band from my living room router (but I've tested it on the 2.4GHz band too).

That's at 4-5 bars of signal reception, of course.  If you're going to be catching a weak signal at 1-2 bars, your speed is generally going to be quite poor.

You can try scanning your area for other networks and seeing which broadcasting channels they use, so you can pick one that's less congested.  I installed a free version of InSSIDer software for that at some point to see how I should set up my routers, though it was only marginally helpful.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Hi all,

Wanted to give an update.

I opted for Plan B - 7260 Dual-Band AC upgrade.  I did the upgrade about 3 days ago, and can happily report no issues since then.  No dropped connections and fast speeds.

Until the upgrade, I had been experiencing too many to count network drops per day.

Just 1 more user input, but hope it helps someone.  Good luck!

@scho101, thanks for the update.  Another user posted this message below who also did Plan B but it didn’t work.

"Cachd, I did the 7260 Dual-Band AC upgrade as detailed in the "Plan B" YouTube tutorial (a few pages back in this thread).  I am still experiencing just as many drops as before, maybe more.  I am using the latest Intel driver (17.0.0.34)."

Which exact driver did you install?  Also, did you uninstall “Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology” via the Control Panel?

That driver conflicts with another and causes the WiFi dropping out before, I reckon now I also have a hardware problem as my current problem is beheaving differently...

scho101, more feedback please?  Thanks!

I had post the Plan B in the hopes someone could try and give feedback as I’m not in a position to do so but now it looks like I’ve no choice, Lenovo have requested it to be returned for repair but I'll be without it for months and shipping it to a country that has international warrantee may cost so much, or using a USB WiFi which sort of defeats the purpose of a mobile laptop.

Why doesn’t Lenovo fix the problem?  For the same reason GM didn’t repair faulty ignitions for many years on one of their cars, it’s all down to money!  But at least no of us will die from this problem, but I’d also say Lenovo isn’t doing their reputation any good with any of us!!!

I am experince a slightly different issue.

Whenever I connect Yoga 2 to my wi-fi network  after sometime wi-fi router stops working . After that can't connect any  device to that wi-fi  . If I restart the router I am able to connect but again same cycle .  So is this the issue with laptop or router.

Router works fine with other devices.

YOga 2 works fine when I create a hot-spot from my mobile and use its wi-fi to connect.

Have tried all solutions but nothing works . Any suggestion what can be the Issue

Apologies for delay.  More details from me.
Driver details below.  Win 8.1 automagically installed this driver after I booted post-Wifi adapter hardware upgrade.
Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Driver date: 4/16/2014
Driver version: 17.0.2.5
Prior to this, I did indeed uninstall “Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology” via the Control Panel.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Update regarding the 7260 "Plan B" and in response to Rob_D regarding driver version -- I was using Intel driver 17.0.0.34 dated 2/18.  About 2 hours ago I updated to Intel 17.0.2.5 dated 4/16 and haven't had a drop since.  I know it's only been a couple of hours, but I had been having multiple drops per hour prior to this so it's encouraging.

Here's the 7260 driver I downloaded (actually for another Lenovo):

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037314

Some more detail, I am running an external monitor via a USB 3.0 adapter so that's probably why my environment has been so harsh.

I'll set a reminder to let you guys know what happens over the next few days for me.

Best regards to all,
