Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

2014-08-04, 23:43 PM

I came across a possible solution to this issue, and posted 2 days (

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Re-Yoga-2-Pro-Wifi-Problems/m-p/1664107/highlight/true#M24924). I wonder if anyone has a chance to try it.

Thanks, however in my case the network at my office does not have 5Mz - only 802.11g (2.4GHz) and I can confirm that I have absolutly no issues at all on that network. The hotel I am currently staying at is also 802.11g.

Since I changed the Power Manager - Power Options - Wireless Network Settings - Power Saving Mode to Maximum Performance my network has been lightening fast and without any dropouts - on both power and batteries. Maybe the problem is intermittent, however I will post back later with an update (I notice the problem seems to be much worse in the evenings when the network is substantially more trafficked).

I'm also noting what WIFI channel I am on (use the command netsh wlan show interfaces to get the adapter info)

I think it's possible that all my dropouts have been while I was on
battery power. I changed my Network Adapter setting to Maximum
Performance and I'll see how it goes.

update: Sorry, that wasn't the answer.  When I got up this morning I was in "limited connectivity" state, and was plugged in.

Guys, there a new update for Wifi and Audio. (Just installed it via SlimDrivers) I had no issues but I want to try them out. :)

Since I set the network adapter to "Maximum Performance" in the Power Options (as described in an earlier post) and using the latest Intel WIFI drivers (17.0.5.8) I have been able to spend a few hours tonight sending e-mails and using the internet with no problems whatsoever. Prior to this my internet connection was exceptionally bad (for the past four days on a very heavily trafficked public hotel network). Right now I would say my Y2P is behaving normal for a pleasant change.

Plase ensure your power options for the wifi network adapter is set to "Maximum Performance" and that you have downoaded the latest Intel wifi driver (http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect). Please post back if this combination of changes resolves or improves the Y2P network bug.

I downloaded the latest driver which is 17.0.5.8 (I have the AC card),
and set my network adapter power settings to Maximum Performance. Since
then I have gotten both the "limited connectivity" bug and the "network
traffic, randomly cannot reach websites" bug.

I assume you don't have the AC card and that's why the version number is
different on your driver?

Sorry... I copied the wrong driver version - I have 17.0.5.8 (and will edit / correct my ealier post).

I'm also sad to hear you are still suffering from the Y2P / Intel / Windows 8.1 network bug. Other than this fault, my Y2P has several other serious design and manufacturing defects so  I am seriusly considering selling my Y2P and downgrading to a Win 7 HP - who gives a %&*# about all the fancy features of the Y2P if they don't work.

Its really upsetting to see so many unhappy Y2P owners. At the 48 hour mark with the newest Intel drivers and their pre-installed AC card and so far no issues. I really love most things about this computer and its sad to see so many have the rest of the package ruined because of a WiFi issue that should never have existed in the first place

What's more upsetting (and somewhat disturbing actually) is the fact that Lenovo has been so unresponsive to the complaints of its consumers. The Y2P is a premium machine from the biggest shipper of laptops in the world, for such a major issue to be present and for the company to not respond with a recall, or at least an apology, and then to go on and quietly change the hardware in newer computers without offering any support to those with the older affected models, is almost unthinkable. And it concerns me should I ever run into any issues with this otherwise fantastic machine down the line.

I wonder if there is any way to find out the Yoga 2 Pro in the store, that has the new AC wireless card without turning on the computer (such as, listing on the side of the box)?

It is on the side of the box, you shouldn't have to open up to turn on.  There is a label with the serical number part number etc (sticker attached to right side of box)  if WLAN: AC is listed you have the Dual band wifi card.  Also you will notice there is a slight upgrade on the core i7 4510 vs 4500
