Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

2013-11-13, 21:33 PM

So I downloaded this, ran it, restarted computer, but when I go through Device Manager, it still says that the driver is from 9/19. I've done it a few times now trying different things. I even deleted the other drivers and ran it again, but this time I didn't get any driver at all and had to figure out how to get my wifi back on the Device Manager list.

Am I missing something?

Ok so you ran the installation and no dice?

Ok. Do this.

Control Panel / Network Devices / Adapter (right click) / Update Drivers / Browser My Computer / Let Me Choose from List / Intel wireless N 7260 / Next...then just complete the rest.

What has happened is that the installation put the driver on your computer but for whatever reason did not fully install it.

There are three identical options to choose from, all Intel Wireless N-7260.

I installed the first one and it's form 9/19 (version 16.5.3.6).

The second is from 8/1 (version 16.5.0.15).

The third says (Microsoft) after it and is from 3/21 (version 16.0.0.62).

So that doesn't seem to be working either :(.

Ok, the most recent drive number is 16.5.3.6.

Ignore the date.  If you are running that driver you are up to date.

For some strange reason, running the driver .exe reverts you back to the March driver (who knows?).  If that is the case, just go into Device Manager and manually point the installation to your c:/Drivers/Kona... folder and make sure "subfolders..." is checked.

Once installatton is done, check properties to make sure you are running 16.5.3.6.

If you are and are still having problems at work, check with your tech guys there.  Maybe they are doing something with the signal that is causing an issue because your Y2P should work properly.

Thanks so much for your help! Glad I put the version up rather than just date.

Unfortunately, my problem is at home, not at work. No tech guys there, just me and husband! We'll see if it's better tonight. Here's hoping. But at least I won't spend any more time looking for an October driver!

Ok, so you are having problems at home and not work?  This points to an issue at home hardware:

1) You may need to reboot your router.  Try unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for about 60 seconds.  Plug it back in and wait for all the lights to finish their refesh.

2) Delete the connection on your Y2P and re-establish it.

3) Try reconnecting.  It could be that your IP was screwed up as a result of changing computers.

4) If you are sophisticated with router firmware and you have increased your home power above 150, try turning it back down to 72.  Your signal may be overwhelming your adapter on the Y2P.

If this does not work, call your service provider and ask them too refresh your router from their end.

OK, I've been experiencing no issues at first but after I installed both the newest and the mid-October driver, very frequent dropping.

I uninstalled them and installed the one in my Drive D: , happy again.

Same as before. Newest driver makes wifi near unusable. Horribly slow. Pages will stop mid-load. speed tests are abysmal.

Uninstalling restores to the way it was before (though still with horrible speed tests compared side by side with another Y2P. Clearly some of these models are pure duds and dont seem to work with the new drivers.

Just as an FYI: customer service authorized me a replacement unit at the end of October and the ship date isnt until the end of DECEMBER. Honestly, I'm losing respect for Lenovo by the minute. Ive been patient with these forums and the lack of Lenovo response, but the shoddy customer service is absurd. Being given a dud and asked to wait 2 months for a replacement model is frankly unacceptable treatment.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

My Y2P I7 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow (11/15).  I have been reading this thread with great curiosity and concern.  A BB geek said that the problem for many is that Windows 8.1 has a default powersaving feature that cuts off the wifi when it thinks its not in use/needed.  The fix he recommended when I get my Y2P is as follows:

-right click start bar and find device manager

--nework adapters

--Intel (model #) wireless adapter

--update the driver

--change settings

     ---disable power saving

I'll let you know if this works (if I need it at all).  He said updating the driver this way is preferred over other entry points because the version is less likely to conflict

He also said the loss in powersavings by disabling this wifi powersaving feature is minimal....

The reason why I think this may be a vaible solution is that I had similar issues with a powersiver on my smartphone...

So when I got home, the connectivity was better, but still not great. Called internet provider, and they think there was an issue with my modem. Changed that out today and so far seems better.

Fingers crossed!
