Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

2014-11-11, 18:55 PM

Hi guys,

I was just close to decide to buy an IdeaPad Yoga 2, not Pro.

But after reading the pages of this thread I'm starting to have some doubts. Are there better alternatives? Let's face it, there will not be a Perfect Ultrabook/Notebook, but still, to buy this and have these connectivity issues...:(

Regards,

Adrian

The Y2P is very far from perfect to say the least - the network error is a serious flaw that has made the Y2P a total headache to use.

If you think it is acceptable to purchase a new computer that needs repairing out of the box at your cost and possibly voiding the waranty of the device, then go with the Y2P.

Yeah, just had a friend ask me if I would recommend the Y2P and I had to tell them no. They went with another brand.

It is a really sad actually that Lenovo does not offer a solution to their customers.

(I need to disable/enable my network adapter about once every 30min to get it working correctly)

Despite the awesome concept, never buy the Yoga 2 13 !

I don't know about the Pro, as its white list is less restricted.

What about Macbook Pro 13? No WiFi issues there despite the 13 number. They use Broadcom WiFi though rather than Intel and Realtek.

wow, thank you all for stopping me to make a big mistake by choosing this notebook. What do you recommend instead? I like x1 carbon, but it's a little bit out of my budget.

I need a notebbok with performance(to run very well the photoshop and illustrator Adobe suit), between 13 and 14 inch screen size.

Now I have a dell xps 13, which is kind of old, but this machine also gives me a lot of trouble with the video drivers. It crashes very often and I'm sick of it :)

I thought that Yoga 2 will be a solution, but from your oppinions ,definitely not.

thanks a lot,

adrian

The Y2P has a new type of display called a "pentile display" - it has RGBW pixels which according to Lenvo will give you only a  “good” colour representation whilst minimizing power consumption. For whatever reason this type of display (made by Samsung) has a major defect in that it cannot display pure yellows. Pure yellow is displayed as mustard green - you can read all about it here if you have the time: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-Pro-Stil-has-Yellow-Color-Issues/td-p/1401397. In my opionion, this is not what I would call "good".

Secondly, the Y2P has a massive resolution of 3200 x 1800 - impressed?  Not me - photoshop (and just about every other app that I use) does not suppot it so I have been forced to run my Y2P on half this resolution. Further, windows 8.1 also has not completley implemented application scaling so even the OS does a poor job of supporting the new high resolution display.

Thirdly, the Y2P uses an Intel graphics hardware that causes photoshop to crash.

Added to that the netework is faulty (which is why I am on this thread) and I have been forced to repair the new computer at my time and expense as Lenovo does not seem to give a &%*# if the network card on their hardware is defect.

In summary - for my purposes the Y2P was a total waste of money and I am very disappointed with Lenvo.
