Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

2015-09-07, 3:56 AM

Hi. I started another thread before seeing this so I apologize. I have a Yoga 2 Pro (Core i5 4200U), with an N 7260 card inside. The only driver that seems to give me close to the perfomance I'd expect is a driver from 2013 (and even there, I've went into the Command Prompt where it says I'm only using 802.11G).

Is there a reason for this? I'm on Windows 10 but this is something that has been an issue since 8.1. I'm on Verizon FIOS 50/50 . My iPhone can regularly test at 16-20 down and 20-30 up. My computer seems to never, ever reach those speeds. It's really frustrating.

Aside from upgrading the wifi card, what else can I do? None of the recent drivers seem to give me a performance boost at all. Could there be a driver conflict? Maybe I need to wipe out old drivers manually somehow? It's driving me crazy. Thanks!

edit: I've decided to go ahead and buy this. This is the correct thing I want to get, correct? I'd install it myself but I kind of screwed up a smaller Yoga 2, so I might have to pay to get it installed locally.

I have troubles with wi-fi very long time, but finally managed to find out reason WHY. In short, it is assembling/design fault, you have open back lid to get access to wifi-card, pull and push card slightly, use some duct tape to protect wifi-antenna from toching metall case of the card and tighten all bolts when you put the lid back.

see my post (use gogle translate):

Hey guys, looks like it's finally over! Intel came up with the new drivers:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25279/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-10

According to their page it was published just 2 days ago, version 18.20.0.

I have just installed it to my Y2P with Wireless-N 7260 single-band adapter and it (fingers crossed) is flying now!

Speedtest.net shows 3 ms ping and about 50 Mbps both up and down! Feel really happy now as it was so annoying with 2-3 Mbps speed and frequent interruptions!

Still cannot believe that Lenovo could bring these trouble and mess to the market having no solution already for years and loosing their present and future customers and all that with a premium level Ultrabook! Even if at the end it's the Intel's fault!

Following to my previous post - I have no idea why but internet speed is down again. Tried everything else I could - it is still there with long interruptions.

It's driving me crazy because there are a couple of old vaio laptops, a desctop, a couple of iPads and a few smartphones - everything is flying at the speed of sound!

I have ordered a new 7260 AC dual-band adapter. I have a great doubt that it would help, most probably I would run into this stupid "unauthorized adapter" problem. If only that happens this laptop will go straight to a trash bin and word "lenovo" will become a taboo in my family. I paid a good bunch of money for a computer that finally worked out in "entertaining" me with freaking troubleshooting. Both on win 8.1 and 10. Thats about enough. No more lenovo stuff in my life.

Camn down ;-)

I also installed the dualband adapter to my Yoga 2 and it is working fine. I don't have any wifi problems and Windows 10 is running quite nicely on this machine.

I must admit that I have the bad performance problem when e.g. in tablet mode, but this problem has been addressed to Lenovo already. Although they are very slow when it comes to answering user problems, I'm still confident that in the future tehy will release a patch or an update.

Like you I'm disappointed with the way Lenovo is answering user problems or providing updates. They still haven't released any suitable Windows 10 upgrade instructions yet - which is really bad.

But at the moment I'll stick with my Yoga 2 Pro because it is a great machine - but again: like you and many others I'm getting angry when looking on the bad support that Lenovo is offering.

From what I can tell, the card I purchased is the correct one, but I'm still getting an "unauthorized wireless card" boot error.

My BIOS is up to date....could the newer BIOS be whitelisting this card? Is there any way to flash my BIOS back to a previous version to see if that would work?

Thank you Lenovo for keeping us entertained! I just had a new network card arrived - "unauthorized network card" joke straight to the screen! After long laughing over this I have ordered a new card - presumably one listed in the stupid "white list". Can anybody explain to me what it is made for? Why on earth I cann't upgrade my premium level laptop with a premium level network card, like I did many times with my other laptops, being forced to stick to a cheap one always dropping the speed down to about 1 Mbps along with connection interuptions making a lot of pain even when downloading just a driver update?

Having no solution to this ongoing problem only shows that Lenovo has no respect to their customers having their powerfull laptops surfing the web on speed of a snail and having no simple solution to avoid this. That's a big shame. And a big reason to avoid any lenovo product in the future. That's it.

Hello Dimitry I have a special delivery for you. Due to lack of support from lenovo.... I give you my own bios downgrade. I will post the dropbox link. What you need Dimitry is a downgrade to bios 76CN41WW. Since I have come to realize that Lenovo is playing games.... Poor code monkey at Lenovo trying to rob hard working consumer.. very sad. I present you the fix. Just unRar (extract) the file once its finished downloading from dropbox. I have edited the .INI file for you. Just run the .bat file and you are good to go. It will start switching your bios so make sure its plugged in. If you have problem. Let me know. As I think I may have forgot something LOL. It should work. I hope. hehe.  please, please. let me know if u have problem. I was so frustrated as well. I hate lenovo now too. bad programmers there....

Here is link. Now you can install the card and it will no longer give you error message.

Thanks a lot, but it looks like a very doubtful solution :)

Now I'm waiting for a "whitelist" ac-card from China, hope very much it would finally make my laptop a perfect machine.
