Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

So you guys are using the same Air router and both have issues?  Pattern maybe?

Also have you gotten a usb adapter or replaced the internal one, or have you chosen to stand on principal and suffer?  I don't get it, spend $40 and solve the problem.  Your computer already cost $300 less than any competitor's model.  If you have tried all of these things and it still doesn't work, return it or have it repaired under warranty.

So many ways to fix this problem, why do you put up with it?

I have the exact same issue with my Medialink router. Best selling router on Amazon.  4.5 stars; over 5,000 reviews.

Replacing thr internal card with AC version has not changed the frequency of limited connection. I have Time Capsule as my WiFi point, and my Y2P goes to limite WiFi connection 1-2 times daily. After I installed the AC card I also updated driver to 16.6 from Intel, and it started happening a lot more often. Rolled back the driver and it's same frequency as with the original card.

There is no doubt this is an odd problem. For some even replacing the card does not solve it while others have never had an issue.  Still others have replaced the card to excellent results.  Really perplexing.

Is there any location where it does work reliably?

Have you tried using a usb adapter just to see if that works? If you don't wish to buy one just borrow one to try it.

To be honest it doesn't happen frequently enough to cross the annoyance factor. All it can do is get better with time. Now if I was one of those that have it happen every 30 minutes, it would be a different story...

It's not the card IMO. It's Windows 8.1 and Intel's poor driver compatibility with that OS. I have the same 7260N for my Y470 with Windows 7 and I never get dropped / limited connections nor super slow internet speed. For people who upgraded to AC, it's the same behavior since the only difference between the AC and the N is that the AC is disabled by firmware for the N.

But then why would only some people be having these issues? There has to be a common thread somewhere.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Had tried all solutions on the forum with no luck.  Was still getting limited connection every 30-90 mins.  Then disabled HT mode -- which is not a great solution -- but no more speed variations and no more limited connection for the last 48 hours.  Suggests the problem is in wireless N implementation.

Router is airport extreme.

Probably 10 other devices have no problem with the router so I'm confident it isn't the router that is the problem.

At least this solution buys me time to look for others.

It's good that you saw my post about disabling "HT Mode" to solve the limited connection problems. A couple of months ago (July 2013), I was having those problems getting speed drops / limited connectivity with 16.1.0.14 drivers for Windows 7. The only solution I discovered back then was to disable that HT Mode and HT Mode is basically the renamed 802.11n setting for Centrino 2230 / 6235). With the release of 16.1.5.2 drirvers (16.5.3.6 for Windows 8.1) the issue is fixed [802.11n doesn't cause limited connections or occasional dial up internet speeds at least with Windows 7] I never needed to tweak the advanced settings except setting the AdHoc QOS to "WMM enabled" to prioritize media streaming. I did try the latest 16.6.0.8 but it was actually less stable than the 16.1.5.2 (more fluctuations in speed reported by Windows).

All in all, Intel still needs to improve the 8.1 driver version, but they have reached a stable 16.1.5.2 drivers for Windows 7.
