Good for you. Now go get yourself some fried crickets OR troubleshoot yourself rather than depending on Lenovo techs for an answer (all calls go overseas).

Looks like hardware design of Yoga 2 Pro is very similar to Yoga. In this case the same reason as that in Yoga may be responsible for WiFi malfunction - any device in USB2.0 port may disturb WiFi. See appropriate theme for Yoga.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Got my Yoga 2 Pro yesterday:

- after all this updates (& BT disconect)  wifi drops every 5 minutes.

- at my home or work wifi works extremely slow - 10 years older laptop download 100MB aproximately 10% faster than this beautiful Yoga 2 Pro and you probably wait for 100 years to download 1GB file...

- also when I connected my Yoga to network my router has restarted (first time ever after connecting anything).

- going to buy small Wifi usb adapter till GUYS FROM LENOVO give us some serious driver updates or just find the guys from Intel (and punch them in the face;)) to repair this mess.

Best Regards.

----------- news

After I bought cheap usb WiFi adapter (~15$) I disabled the Intel WiFi card - and my router starts to working fine again, also i did'nt notice connection failures. This litle thing is not even noticeable when plugged in.

Still Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is great machine.

Well, my Y2P has been returned. While I enjoyed the hybrid aspects, the myriad of issues stemming from Lenovo, Intel and/or Windows 8 were enough. Feels a little weird to be using a laptop with no touch screen now (got an rMBP) but I haven't had a single issue for two days straight! Quite a change from the Y2P... Maybe Windows 9, we will see, but judging by SP2, Y2P and XPS12 problems, I don't feel it.

@ medeiom

Are you connected to 5 GHz band? If so, you won't have any disconnection problems aside from less range than 2.4 GHz since the 7260 drivers are excellent when connected at 5 GHz. I could say that those people that don't have WiFi problems when the 7260AC is used because there's way less RF interference at 5 GHz so the connection is much more stable.

IMO, at 2.4 GHz band, it really depends on the router used, how congested the RF environment is and the driver version installed. I do think that if you have over 25 hotspots in range, the WiFi disconnection will occur more frequent. It can be that the drivers aren't able to recover from RF interference unlike those other devices where they can still return to normal speeds after the RF interference lessens.

One of a good test that I think that would determine if the 7260N drivers are more susceptible to interference (i.e. not able to return to normal connection from interference) is to stream 3 hour length mp3s from a desktop hardwired to the router to two laptops at the same time (LAN only). If both laptops have interrupted music streaming at the same time, then WiFi interference is most of the time the fault. However, if the other laptop returns to streaming fine while the Y2P still keeps dropping packets which eventually goes to "Limited" then it's the driver's fault. This might explain why Y2P or many laptops with 7260N drop WiFi while other devices don't drop WiFi.

Here's a tip that can make the drops / limited wifi issue (not really sure if it lessens the drop outs): use inssider to get the recommended channel. Here's a screenshot of my WiFi network at home where I set my router based on recommended channel:

You can pretty much guess that I have so many nearby hotspots (around 28) that selecting the best channel will improve WiFi performance significantly. Of course this won't eliminate interference (will be noticable through buffering / download bars moving intermittently despite having way more bandwidth available)

My router doesn't support IPv6. It's a 4 year old draft N Netgear router. Despite having 28 hotspots, I only have 2 overlapping and 5 (weak signals -75 dbm) co channel hotspots so that's one factor my WiFi is most of the time stable (still does the speed drops and have to reset the adapter to get back to normal though this happens around twice a week to once per 2 weeks).

I meant disabling on the card itself.

I didn't. Everything is checked. I just disabled all the power savings.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Dear Yoga2 users!

I found a way to crush WiFi on my Yoga (no damage to the computer or parts happen, everything works after disconnecting HDD and reboot). If the same problems exist on other computers, the reason is in incorrect power management of the USB bus in Yoga/Yoga2 and it has chances to be fixed.

I would greatly appreciate if somebody repeats my tests using Yoga 2 Pro.

Test:

  • Reboot your system, all USB devices disconnected
  • Open http://www.speedtest.net site and measure Download connection speed (Speed1)
  • Connect external HDD to USB2 (NOT USB3!) port
  • Wait until HDD is connected
  • Test Download speed once again (Speed2)
  • Report results to this blog as Computer type/Speed1/Speed2

Thank you in advance,

Yuri Kalambet
