Our Y2P came from the factory with a broadcom card in it and we are still having the frequent drop outs. The Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (different machine) came from the factory with a piece of junk software on it called LenovoECM Storage Connector that was wreaking havoc with wireless networks all over. Lenovo's solution at this point is to uninstall that program. However, I don't see that program on our system, so I'm wondering if there is another similar program causing a problem for us?

Is this the Broadcom card that's inside the Y2P? : https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Broadcom_BCM94352Z

It's the only broadcom card that has the NGFF M.2 factor that Y2P uses so this might be the one. It's AC wireless + Bluetooth 4.0 which is exactly the competitor of the 7260AC from Intel.

I don't know how to find out exactly what the capabilities of this card are or what it's name is. Device manager is not much help. It does seem to provide bluetooth as well. This is what it appears to be:

Interesting. If some of the Yoga Pros have broadcom wifi cards. This clearly indicates the issue is more of a router compatibility. Think about it, Intel and Broadcom both experience wifi drops.

.... Or a windows protocol setting issue... Think about it, both Intel and Broadcom.... Also, we are not just talking about 1 router, this problem is across multiple devices. Since you seem to not know this, you should always start troubleshooting with the most common denominator. In this case, it is windows 8.x.

Seriously, I think the problem needs a firmware/bios fix to offset this crappy Windows 8 issue.

Yes, this is still a Lenovo issue. After all, we have an OEM copy of windows, based off a RTM version. It is Lenovo's job to test and custom install Windows to tailor a functional copy onto their custom machines.

PS. You are doing a poor job keeping your employment undercover.

I have always said in the past that this is either a router, Intel or Win8 driver issue. But clearly not a Lenovo driver issue. The only way to narrow down this subject, is downgrading the Yoga OS from Win8.1 to Win8

Who is willing to take up this challenge? I can't because I do not have any wifi drops. So clearly it would have to be someone with constant wifi connection problems.

Another interesting note, those with wifi drops.. are you running Win8.1 or Win8.1 Pro? I'm using Pro version.

Someone will need to downgrade to windows 7.... Downgrading to windows 8 would just be stupid.

Also, it is not a pro issue. I have win 8.1 update 1 (Pro). Furthermore, I doubt anyone would take a hit and install windows 7. By doing so, you will break the OKR system and will need to spend hours/days setting up a new computer. Anyhow, this is not our job. We are not getting paid to spend 300+ hours on a fix that will help Lenovo sell more computers.

I don't have the time nor the expertise to downgrade from  the Win8.1 we are currently running. However, I don't believe this to be a router issue because it happens at home, Starbucks, Wegmans, wherever we go.

I don't have the expertise to figure this out on my own, but I mentioned this thread earlier and I'm wondering if Lenovo would be kind enough to tell us if there is software similar to the LenovoECM Storage Connector running on these machines. If you read this thread from the Lenovo ThinkPad community, removing that software even became Lenovo's recommended fix to the issue. I am not inclined to believe this is some Lenovo conspiracy to ram crappy machines down our throats. But unstable wifi is a deal breaker all the way around and Lenovo should be putting resources into helping us.

So, in general, when people replace the card, with something different, the problem dissapears? It's just driving me nuts. Even though the disconnects can be random, I know I can invoke them while under heavy load, like watching videos. -Matt

I replaced with the 7260ac and the problem did not go away.  I'm pretty sure it's a driver issue despite what others say.  The new card uses the existing driver.  Replacing the hardware had no effect for me.  I will say that 5ghz is more stable but it's rare to see in the wild and has shorter range at home.

Unlike some others, I have seen some improvement with the 17.x drivers mentioned earlier in this thead.

Also, I have a backup netgear usb wifi stick that always works if i start having problems.   It was < $30 and unobtrusive.  It sucks to have to do that but I have work to do.

The lack of response to this thread and to this issue by the company means I won't buy another Lenovo product.

Yeah, I've been using a USB wifi adapter to help mitigate the problem. It does really suck to have to use one of the ports. I wonder if I could find the old driver and maybe it'll fix the problem. But that's probably been mentioned somewhere in the recesses of this topic, and probably didn't work. I suppose when people tested this unit and gave it such rave reviews, if they help on to it long enough to discover the crap wifi, they would have had some not so nice things to say. -Matt
