Does the reccommended Intel AC dual band card also work well if used in 2.4GHz band only?  Most of the routers I connect to do not support 5GHz band.

It might or might not work any better than the default N card though most cases who upgraded experienced substantial increase in performance and stability at 2.4 GHz band. In case it didn't work well for you at 2.4 GHz, you can buy AC router and get perfect stability.

Hi,

I am new in this community. I looked quite a while to solve the Wifi-Problem. At home I don't have any problems but at work the connection is very instable an got lost all the time. Now I fixed the problem by setting up the "Intel connection properties" to use just ONE band instead of using the mixed option. It does't matter which one but since that time the connectivity is stable. At least with my Thinkpad Yoga 2.

Thanks. I don't have an AC router song wasnt sure if this fix would work. I may try it, and if it doesn't work, I suppose I'll have to get a new router as we'll. sigh.

The thinkpad yoga is a different machine. If you have Lenovo ECM Storage Connector, you might want to remove that program. A network contractor discovered bad code in that software that was causing disconnects due to high network traffic. (In essence, the software was constantly searching for ECM storage, making networks believe it was a virus, hence the disconnects.) He posted his findings to a thread over in the ThinkPad discussions. Lenovo subsequently posted a recommendation that Thinkpad Yoga owners uninstall the software until Lenovo could get the code sorted. If you do a search on the site for "Lenovo ECM Storage Connector" you can verify.

****Possible solution****

My problem was similar to most people in this thread.

  • connection to Internet lost, while still connected to router (exclamation mark on the wifi icon in the notification bar)
  • sometimes a simple disconnection from the network and reconnecting would solve the problem
  • sometimes I would get the message "Can't connect to network", in which case a full system restart would allow me to connect again.  But then it would start all over.
  • all other machines and devices had no issue with the network, including a yoga 13 and a yoga 11
  • drop outs were very frequent for the yoga pro 2, sometimes less than 5 minutes apart
  • uninstalled network driver, and reinstalled; no success

****My problem has been fixed****

I no longer have this problem.  I can't remember what page it is on, but it's in this thread, somewhere between pages 30 and 40 I think.  I upgraded the intel software for my card from the intel website.  Not just the driver, which had the up-to-date version even when this problem was happening.

Now this part I'm sorry for, and I'm sure it will frustrate others as much as it does me.  I did two recommended fixes at once, so I don't know which one is responsible!  The 2nd thing I did was to disabled TCP/IPv6 in the properties of my network on this machine.  A few things led me to believe this would solve the problem, but without thinking, I did both fixes in the same time frame.  Regardless, I no longer have the issue.  So scroll through pages 30-40, try what I did, and report back.  It's unfortunate that there are so many posts to sift through in this thread.

Don't think this software is installed on the Yoga 2 Pro, at least I could not find any trace of it on my Y2P.

Anyone else?

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

This is the file I downloaded which contains software and drivers:

Wireless_17.0.0_e64.exe

From this link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23711&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208%2C%2064-bit*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Software%20Applications%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

With this, and the disabling of TCP/IPv6 in the properties of my network connection, I saw results.  To disable TCP/IPv6:

  • Connect to network (hopefully you can do this after a restart, if necessary)
  • Control Panel -->
  • Network and Internet -->
  • View Network Status and Tasks -->
  • Click on your network (it should be next to the word "connection:" and it should be clickable) -->
  • Click "Properties" (Note: there might also be a clickable box called "wireless properties", that's not the right one)
  • In "Properties", you'll see a list of checkable boxes.  Uncheck the box for "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
  • Click "ok"

These are the two fixes I applied and I no longer have the problem.  I don't really have a deep desire to understand the issue to it's core, but I no longer suffer from the issue.  So give it a try and see what happens.

A new router shouldn't be necessary, the AC card works fine on N. I installed the card about a week ago and have been using it on 5ghz N 20mhz with mostly no problems. I've been having some short, 5-10 second drops every few hours, but I suspect it has something to do with bluetooth (I have bluetooth headphones connected to it essentially 100% of the time) and am currrently testing out some newer drivers, I'll make another post in maybe a week or so with my findings on that if anyone is worried.

I have tested 2.5ghz N briefly and it also seemed stable, but I could give it longer test tonight and stream a long movie or something. I could also test G if anyone is still using that :P

Well here's where I'm at right now. At the suggestion of another user, I've installed Intel Proset driver 17.0.0. It works perfectly...until I wake my computer up from sleep. Every time I wake from sleep, connection is weak and slow, and one time the wifi wouldn't work, and the PC said there was a hardware or driver issue. Restarted the computer and it worked perfectly. Either I missed or changed an option somewhere, or I can't seem to get a good driver that works with this thing.
