Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

2014-04-24, 0:06 AM

Hello Everyone,

I do not have the driver that rfc2014 is mentioning (I have the 16.8.0.6), however I do have the TCP/IPv6 disabled in the properties of my network connection (I mention it in a previous post some pages ago) and my connection is not dropping as it used to do and the speed is the same as I had with other computers. So I strongly recommend to try disabling the TCP/IPv6 as rfc2014 suggests.

Regards

Jose

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Happy to say that for the time being, my problem seems to be fixed.

I wound up unstalling my wifi and BT drivers, then restarting. Then uninstalling my wifi and BT drivers, then installing. I did this several times until I saw that my BT and wifi driver seemed to be as old as they could be.

I'm not sure exactly what I did, but right now my BT driver is from 2006 and my wireless driver is from 2013 (wifi is driver  16.5.3.6).

Could this be problematic moving forward? Right now my wifi seems to be super fast and stable. I suppose if I ever want to connect a BT device and run into problems, I will update my BT driver, but for now, I think I'm going to stay with this. It's working fine and I don't want to fiddle with it anymore.

Of course, I also disabled TCP/IPv6, so perhaps that, with a combination of just cleaning out whatever drivers were on here is what solved the problem. I'm wondering if there was a conflict with just having too many drivers that were all trying to talk to the computer at the same time? Who knows. Seems to be working perfectly now. Hope there isn't anything weird happening that I don't know about, like the computer waking from sleep at odd times or something unexpected.

It's just that not all drivers work well with each laptop. Some y2p users get the "limited" problem (default gateway not available) with 16.5.3.6 while it works well and is stable to others. The most stable for my lenovo y470 is 16.8.0.6 but it isn't stable for some. I didn't have to mess with tcp ipv6 though.

Wish I had known that before! I would've just kept cycling through drivers to see what works.

If you're experiencing problems with your wifi, I suggest trying out different drivers and see if anything clicks. You'll probably want to make sure that you uninstall old drivers before installing new ones - I think that may have been where I got thrown off.

Just wanted to register to give back to the community, you guys rock. I was getting 5-15 drops per day at work. Changing the channel from 1 to 7 has brought me three straight days of no drops.  Hopefully this helps someone. See image:

This is assuming you don't run into a network with lots of channel 7 users.

This may seem odd, but maybe it's not - my wifi works fine, but when I turn blueooth on, the wifi essentially loses connection. If I have the latest BT driver and try to turn it on and pair some headphones, the wifi just doesn't seem to work at all.

Is there some magic combination of drivers? The only wifi driver I've found that works for me is 16.5.3.6. I'll try to download the BT driver again, but it's looking more and more like I have to keep it off if I want to maintain my wifi connection.

Wth is going on? I gave up and bought a dual band wifi adapter. Everything was just fine until last week when Microsoft came out with an update for windows. Since the update I'm having again limited connections at my university and at home the speed of the internet sucks, internet connection freezes for a few seconds and then come back (at home I dont get limited connections).
So what I did was uninstall the update and everything is fine. Is microsoft crazy or is just me?

Folks, it's not just WiFi. I bought a USB Ethernet adapter in order to skirt the WiFi problem at work (at home everything is fine), but even that suffers the same problems as WiFi. The connection just randomly goes to "limited". I am connected to my company's network with a live link, I get a valid IP address from the DHCP server (I've even tried using a manual IP), I have all of the correct gateway, subnet mask and DNS server info, but it just inexplicably won't work. When I run the network troubleshooter in Network and Sharing Center, I am told that the gateway is unreachable. The utility resets my Ethernet or WiFi adapter, whichever I am using at the time, and then I'm fine again for a while.

There just seems to be an inherent problem with the Yoga 2 Pro and network adapters.

Hey, Lenovo... HELP!!!!

I got my new Y2P a few days ago. It's a newer model. From late January. It has no problem at all. Everything works now for me.

The WiFi modul is the same though. Maybe just an BIOS update and newer software.

I got an update from Slimdrivers for the Intel for the WiFi. Since then I've got no problems.

Just sad 5 Ghz doesn't work... But I'm fine with that for now.
