Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

2014-05-06, 1:31 AM

I've been following this thread for sometime now, in fact basically since I've experienced wifi issue since I got my Yoga 2 Pro back in November. My issue consisted of constant disconnects after wake from sleep to frequent disconnects while working on the machine over longer periods of time (2/3 disconnects over 3-4 hours). It became very frustrating. I've tried a couple of suggestions on this thread without success, that is, until the other day when I looked at the Intel Smart Connect Technology and saw an update was available. Since that update, I have not had one intermittent disconnect, nor have I had any issues with wifi after wake from sleep. I have not seen a single caution(!) indicator over my wifi indicator within the task bar. My wifi is running flawlessly finally!

Not saying these settings will work for you, but maybe:

1. In the Network connections, I have TCP/IPv6 OFF.

2. Intel Wireless-N 7260 is running on driver version 16.6.0.8

3. Intel Smart Connect Technology software is running on version 5.0.10.2793

Good luck all, I hope never to come back here for my sake, only for yours.

Does Smart Connect have anything to do with Wi-Fi operating properly though?

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/smart-connect-technology.html

It's made more for sync / e-mail / information updates, I thought.  Anyway I updated mine just in case.

---

To those who've updated Wifi/Bluetooth drivers to Intel's official ones: how did you go about it?  When I look on Intel's download site, I only see PROSet software, which installs Bluetooth management software, but doesn't install any drivers =/  Just tried it, and it did not install a driver or give any option to install a driver.  Downloaded a zip version too,a and did not find any drivers inside to link to for a manual update.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Just called Lenovo support in the US and had a productive call.  The person knew about this problem straight away so no answering questions from a flow chart.  Allowed her remote access, not something I normally like doing but she knew what she was doing and it’s much faster…

1. Download the latest Wireless LAN driver from (I guess people have tried before): http://mobilesupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-2-pro-lenovo

I downloaded the Windows 8.1 (64-bit) driver, called wwwfw0632g.exe

3. Next she went to Device Manager -> Network adapters -> Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260 -> Properties -> Power Management -> Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”

4. Now again in, Device Manager -> Network adapters -> Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260 -> Properties -> Driver -> click “Update Driver…” -> click “Browse my computer for diver software” -> point to the folder you downloaded the driver to i.e. wwwfw0632g.exe and let it update answering the usual stuff

5. Finally uninstall “Intel(R) Smart Connect Technology” via the Control Panel...(mine was version 4.2.40.2418, 30.3MB).

I asked why remove this and was told there is a conflict between this driver and the other one. TidalWave asked in the post above if Smart Connect has anything to do with the WiFi, I'd say YEP!

6. Reboot.

BTW, I’m running Windows 8.1 and the date of manufacture of mine was 17Jan14.  I’ve had no drop outs so far but time will tell.  I hope this helps and this will resolve everyone's problem…can’t believe this is page 94 I’m posting on!!!!

WWAN: Bugger.  Could you be running an older version of hardware?  My DOM is Jan2014.

Speaking to the US Lenovo person she was giving advice about if I need to return the laptop to replace hardware.  I bought it in Singapore and living in Chile so International warrantee isn’t covered here but it did set off the little voices in my head if there might be a hardware problem…?

Let me know if I can provide any other info about my machine that could help?

Reckon this is an easy upgrade and could eliminate the WiFi dropping out?

I agree. At home I have an Apple Airport and never have any disconnect issues. At work, we have SonicWall and the disconnects are infuriating.

Thanks for the tip! I updated the WiFi driver, turned off the setting to save power and uninstalled Smart Connect and here are the results:

Bad news: Disconnects still occur, although they are fewer and father between.

Good news: When a disconnect occurs, it usually REconnects itself after just a few seconds. This never happened before.

Also, keep in mind that I was having the same issue with my USB Ethernet adapter, which is also showing better connectivity since removing Smart Connect. It really does seem to be a conflict with any network adapter, not just the WiFi.

How are people upgrading to the latest intel driver--not the kind from Lenovo's driver webpage, which is much older, but the latest Intel driver for 7260 N?

Try https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx or use the update detection whosiwhatsit utility: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect that's how I got the newer driver. I believe it also found a newer graphic driver than on lenovo's page. Depends on if Lenovo has updated their drivers since then though, of course.
