Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Are these laptops CE compliant?  They have the CE sticker on the back…

To legally be able to use the CE you have to prove your equipment meets certain group of standards and one part is EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility).  EMC compliance is two fold, that is, it should limit the amount of EMC it emits and what it is susceptible too.  USB 3.0 is designed for fast data bandwidth along a hard wire and not wireless so the design should be well enough shielded to prevent interference too and by other equipment.  As for the WiFi and Blue Tooth they are designed to Tx/Rx data at a certain (internation standard allowed) frequencies.   As it appears here, the USB 3.0 does brings down the quality of the WiFi, hence the effective range is reduced.  I my case 13 networks down to 2 (others here have also proved this), also this would explain why my signal strength of my WiFi fluctuates, even though the laptop and router are in fixed locations.

No matter which way you cut it seems the Y2Pro blem is indeed a poor EMC design regarding using its USB 3.0, this Wifi problem has been one of three Y2Pro blems I’ve had to date…

But what can we do?

What is Lenovo doing?

Like member pasiphae90, I mean what do I know I’m only a Chartered Engineer, with experience in electronic design and embedded Digital Signal Processing with the UK Under Water Defence Industry.  Also personally worked with EMC compliance of new model generator sets for a major international company which I cannot name for the fear of breaking the forum rules and having my posts either removed or edited again, but they were yellow mustered colour.  (I hope this post meets the Lenovo Policing Rules, no naming of company’s or being offensive, only sharing my real life Lenovo experience and expertise…and not talking about my previous experience of legal action or "undertake legal action or otherwise disrupt the normal business processes of Lenovo")

I too have been using the updated driver for nearly a week and have not had a single disconnect.

Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

I uninstalled both Intel Wifi and also Bluetooth wireless software from Control Panel, rebooted, and installed newest Intel bluetooth and wifi drivers (without full software), and all is good.
BTW, new Intel wifi drivers came out a week ago, version 17.0.2.

Mind you, don't install full Intel's software, install only drivers. For example Y2P can't connect to iPhone hotspot normally, but uninstalling Intel's PROSet/Wireless Software from Control Panel solves the issue.

The files are:

"BT_17.0.1401.03_e164.exe" (32.18 MB, 64 bit file) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23761&lang=eng&wapkw=bt_17.0.1401.03_e164.exe

"Wireless_17.0.2_De164.exe" (smaller, 21.34 MB file) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23865&lang=eng&wapkw=wireless_17.0.2_de164.exe

The larger file at wifi link is a wifi driver bundled with Intel's PROSet/Wireless Software, which MIGHT be a cause to some problems. Download and install the smaller file. Be sure to uninstall Intel's BT and Wifi software from Control Panel before that. Reboot before and after.

Everything works perfectly for me, streaming music to BT speakers and using wifi together.

Some time ago I had wifi issues with one network (disconnections and limited connections). It was solved by disabling IPv6 from wireless adapter properties. After disabling IPv6 my Y2P had no problem with that particular network, it worked perfectly. That might help some...

Thank you for the VERY clear information!  I've just followed your steps, and will now unplug my USB wifi adapter and begin countdown.  :)

In your case, just upgrade to 7260AC. I'm pretty sure it'll resolve your LIMITED problems plus you get this speed on WiFi:

Lenovo Y470: i7-2670QM | 8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz RAM | Nvidia GeForce GT 550M | 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate HDD | ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Network Adapter | Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

OK, I've been having drops and limited connections as well, and then have been experimenting with different settings because I remembered what exact settings for wireless adapter in Device Manager I had when I didn't have any issues.

And there's one single setting which makes all the difference.

In wireless adapter cilck properties, and go to the second tab "Advanced" where there's a list of many adapter settings.

The first setting in the list is "802.11n Channel Width for 2.4 MHz" and it's set to Automatic. Change it to "20 MHz Only" and press OK. That should instantly fix the limited connection.

I didn't have any wifi issues even with the stock Y2P wifi driver with this setting set to "20 MHz only".

Reading some more knowledgeable post from Rob_D about radio inteference, it would seem to me that this option makes some sense to fix the radio inteference?

Either way - it works with new drivers, and has worked for me with older wifi driver as well.

I did the 7260 Dual-Band AC upgrade as detailed in the "Plan B" YouTube tutorial (a few pages back in this thread).  I am still experiencing just as many drops as before, maybe more.

I am using the latest Intel driver (17.0.0.34).

This is very strange behavior on a 7260AC card. Is it with specific routers? are you experiencing drops at home, cafe, etc.,?

Do me a favor, go under Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, disable the third USB starting from the bottom of the list. Restart and let me know your results.

Reason I ask to disable is because of the latest posts about USB contact issue.

P.S. If the above fails, can you start your machine in safe mode and see if there are any drops. I'm trying to narrow down possibilities.
