I replicated this solution with my Yoga 2. I inserted the headphones, closed the laptop lid, waited for the sound to stop due to laptop sleep, unplugged the headphones, opened the lid and my speakers worked again. Definitely a software issue.

A few days later... for me, this works most times, but not every time.
Even more bizarre: my speakers suddenly stopped after a couple of hours without problem.
Note that I uninstalled the Realtek driver, so either there are still traces of it (unlinkely) or it's a deeper issue. Firmware on the sound board?

The investigation into these reports has concluded.
I appreciate everyone taking the time to provide feedback and work with me as I investigated. My sincerest thanks to Maricat for allowing me to borrow her Yoga 2 Pro as a customer sample.
If you have updated your audio drivers and checked your settings yet the headphones or speakers on your Yoga 2 Pro is intermittantly not producing audio, please contact Lenovo Service for support and reference Service TIP SF15-I0002/ HT102554.

What is the solution? I've downloaded the audio driver as directed by this forum. I need speakers to actually work. I'm not getting sound with headphones either.
Thanks for your time to resolve this issue.
