Regular attempts at updating firmware for yoga 720 15

2017-05-09, 15:14 PM

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070103: Lenovo Ltd. - Firmware - 3/1/2017 12:00:00 AM - 1.19.0.0.

It's apparently because Windows thinks the firmware update is needed but once it tries to do so, determines that my machine already has the update.

Lenovo, do you need to push something to Microsoft?

Hi there, Michael                       -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Error code 0x80070103 is encountered when a user opts to download the most current updates from the Windows Update Website or Microsoft Update website for their hardware drivers.

Update us how it goes.

I think the responder didn't understand the problem. I have it too, though the system says I can't "me too" my own post (which this is not - but I don't have time to chase a bug while I'm trying to solve another bug).

To be clear - Windows 10 AUTOMATICALLY and REPEATEDLY tries to install firmware update 1.19.0.0. In my case, it is actually reporting success, but then it just installed the firmware again, doing a hard reboot without warning while I slept (this is a dangerous features of the update process that means I can't trust leaving applications open while the machine is asleep).

How do we prevent this automatic, repeated installation of firmware? It can't be good for the programmable ROM...

Thank you!

I have the same problem. The link you provided isn't relevant to Windows 10 Home systems. How can we fix this?

There could be two reasons:

  1. You might be trying to install a driver which already exist on your system
  2. Sometimes you are trying to install a driver which is less compatible with its version.

Update us how it goes.

All you really need is System Update by Lenovo.

Install this package and let Lenovo notify you when critical updates are available for your system (BIOS, Firmware, Drivers, etc.)

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds012808

Personally I'd avoid the bloatware - but hey, it's your system : )

Cheers!
