Screen rotation not working in Yoga 2 13 (windows 10)

2016-01-01, 8:52 AM

I am not very happy with this laptop from the very beginning as the performance is not as smooth as I expected. I have had issues when the laptop was brand new. Like the mouse cursor would sometimes suddenly get stuck somewhere on the screen and remain there. That problem still persists till date. So now I have started using an external mouse whenever the cursor gets stuck randomly.

Coming back to the context, after upgrading to windows 10 the screen stopped rotating. I updated the lenovo transition software for windows 10. After that the screen rotation worked fine for sometime. But one fine day it just stopped working again.

I tried everything that I read in the forum -

1. Tried pressing the rotation lock button on the right side of the laptop.
2. Formatted my laptop and did a clean OS reinstall and then updated to windows 10 again.
3. Changed the value of SensorPresent to 1 (it was 0) in registry. Auto rotation is also set to 1.
4. Manually used the Ctrl+Alt+arrow keys to change screens to see if it did anything.
5. Installed the latest lenovo transition software which is compatible with windows 10.
6. Updated to all windows 10 drivers.
7. Made sure that the ymc service is running.

But even after doing all these, the screen rotation just doesn't seem to work at all. I don't know what else can I do to get it back. I have tried countless other tricks as suggested in various forums by people facing the same trouble. But mine doesn't seem to get solved. :(

Someone please help me...

Hello,

You don't mention the flashing of the latest BIOS, but maybe you just forgot.

By the way, on point 2., before updating to Win 10, you don't need to do "a clean reinstall" of Win 8 anymore.

You can now just do a totally clean install of Win 10, and it will activate just fine (because the HardwareId of your Yoga is already on MS servers).

When i updated my driver, i updated the bios firmware also. Does that count as flashing bios?

Hello,

Yes it does.

I don't really know what to suggest to you, besides checking if rotation is unlocked in the quick settings, and from what you said in your first post: uninstalling Transition, then reinstalling it.

If you wipe the screen from right to left, on the left of the screen, you should see an option to lock/unlock the rotation:

In Control Panel, Display:

The rotation lock is greyed out in both the side panel and control panel. How do i unlock it? Until today this option was not showing on my laptop. Strange...

Let the Control Panel open, go in Tablet Mode, rotate, and the option should become available.

Rotation Lock was grey and the button on the side of Yoga 2 did nothing. The fix was, in fact, was to swipe from right to open Panel while in laptop mode. Select Tablet Mode and then flip screen into tablet mode and the Rotation Lock became available and was on (which explains why nothing would rotate). Turned it off and now my screen rotates again as expected. The odd part of this problem is it looks and acts like something is broken, like maybe the rotation sensor is dead or the driver for it is not working. I would be willing to bet a lot of people think their Yoga is no longer working properly.
