Screen won't come on

My laptop powers on but the screen stays black. I can't get the screen to come on at all. It was working fine and then I updated it and now I can't get it to come on. It's only a year old.

Re: Screen won't come on

Hi lmgilbert13,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would you have the machine number from the sticker or MTM from here?

Try to connect an external display and check if the image would show up.

Press cap lock if it responds with a small led dot on the key.

There are also FN keys on top that may control the display toggle that you can try.

Else press down the power button to manually turn off and unplug the ac charger.

Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds without the intention of turning it on.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Re: Screen won't come on

None of this worked. The laptop and power buttons come on but not the screen. It's completely black, no logo. I can't take out the battery because the back is completely screwed on.

Re: Screen won't come on

Hi lmgilbert13

Greetings.

Without any response with the caps lock and that same no display using an external monitor, then prognostics are not good as it appears like a no post issue ( failed power on self test).

If you do not have the tools for the machine then it would be best to call in technical support for in warranty repair else to check with your local service center.

What I usually do is to remove the harddrive , optical drive and battery and with an unplugged charger to power drain by pressing the power button down for 15 seconds to remove internal charge on the motherboard. Then recheck the ac charger or try a spare charger and proceed checking internally for hot spots on the systemboard eventually cleaning the fan and reapplying thermal paste. Recheck the memory sticks using one at a time on each slot before moving to probable systemboard troubleshooting.

Regards
