The right click area is the entire right side of the pad. To scroll or select or left click I have to use only the left half of the pad.
How can I reset the right click area to be only the usual lower right or lower side of the pad and not half?

It may help others to help you if you specify what laptop you have and what operating system you're running.

That looks mechanical to me, but let's start with the easy stuff.
If it's still malfunctioning, then you have some choices. If it's still under warranty, send it in. If not - and you're comfortable doing it - disassemble your 710 and re-seat the ribbon cable that runs from the touchpad to the motherboard. If that doesn't work, it could be a defective touchpad. If you're not comfortable doing that, send it in, warranty or none and let Lenovo fix it.
Those are my educated guesses, anyway.

Updating the BIOS, all the drivers and the OS seemed to fix it.
I don't know which one actually did the trick or which reboot fixed it. But it started working somewhere along the way.
Thanks you SO much for the help!
