Sleep and Shut Down issue on Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 ARE 05

2020-12-21, 11:37 AM

I own a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, if it's not obvious. I have the Ryzen 7 4800U 16GB RAM variant, all drivers are up to date and I am running the latest BIOS version~ DMCN34WW.

So, I have two issues, the first one is VERY important not so much with the second one.

  1. My slim 7 loses more than 20% battery on sleep mode overnight (around 10hrs), I have never faced this issue on any laptop before. I'll be using, chrome, discord and Whatsapp and I'll just shut my laptop close, and in the settings, I have set it to sleep when I close the lid and it does go to sleep. And I have tried this by disabling WiFi on sleep mode in windows settings and I have also tested this buy closing all my apps and letting the laptop sleep. Around 1-3% lower battery drain when I turned off WiFi closing the apps didn't help, please shed some light on this issue and let me know if this is an issue only I face or any of you face, if that is the case, I'll reset my PC.

  2. The second issue I want to address is the really really low Shutdown times. Let me get this clear, I have turned off fast boot and the start-up time to enter the desktop is around 15 seconds which is good. But when I shut down my machine, not exaggerating 2 SOLID minutes to shut down, I have an 8 yr old and a 3yr old Vivobook and Spectre 13 10th gen, they all shut down in less than 20 seconds, but this 2 minutes is unacceptable. Let me know if any of you have the same issue for this one too.

From my experience with other laptops, I think this should be fixable with a BIOS update, so to any Lenovo Employee reading this, please carry it forward to the responsible authorities and get these issues fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

Hi Siddarththiru,

Greetings.

I suggest to have the BIOS checked for other offered features that may still be active.

Check the Configuration tab for similar features like Always on USB, AOAC etc.

After disabling, go to the exit tab to save and exit.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Nope, I disabled everything in BIOS and lost 17% over exactly 9 hours, really bad optimization from Lenovo

Ok, I have done a bit more research onto this and the issue is that slim 7 comes with modern standby and Windows has removed option to disable it via the registry in version 2004. Thinkpads come with a Sleep State option called Linux, which basically change the sleep state from the modern Standby S2idle/S0lowpower (or whatever modern standby is called) to S3 standby, so Lenovo should give slim 7 users an option to swap this in the BIOS in the next update to avoid battery drain issues.
