Slow WiFi on C930

This seems to have happened after the Windows 1903 update. I've the latest drivers, BIOS...etc. Still no luck. Connection speeds were great not too long ago but not exactly sure when this started. But my speeds are a fraction of what they used to be. It might be the power settings for WiFi but after drilling around I can no longer find these. Even under Advanced Power Settings. I've tried older Intel WiFi drivers but no luck.

Using the Intel Wireless AC 9260 160Mhz.

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

Similiar issue here on my Yoga 730 15...Was averaging 170 Mbps before...now about 20 mbps...

My cellphone still shows 170+ mbps

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

Wonder if this issue is related to MS KB4515384 (Win 10 v1903). Looks like this may be more related to connectivity.

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

I don't know...this is very weird. Every now and then I get the 150+ speeds...but then back to subpar. I noticed that if I force it to connect to the 2.4 band it gets better results, but still below what it used to do.

A Windows update happened recently, so that might be.

Just in case I did buy in Amazon the Intel 9260 card to replace the original one. It costs only about $13. I was going to replace it today, but the stupid screw that holds the card in place is stripped Smiley Sad

So I am now buying a screw extractor (which costs 2 times what I paid for the wifi card...but I guess it will be useful to have it).

Will let you know if I am successful at installing the card and if the speed gets as it should be.

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

Wanted to update on this. As I mentioned in my previous post I replaced the original wifi card with the Intel 9260.

So far everything is better. I am recording 150+ speeds almost every time that I measure. But more importantly, everything feels somehow faster...browsing, in general, feels snappier and faster. Might be my mind playing tricks on me. Time will tell.

Best,

JC

PS> Remember my laptop is not the C930. It is the Yoga 730, 15.

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

So you think these WiFi cards go bad?  Keep me posted as I'm curious if the issues will come back.  It's looking like Windows updates may have caused some issues with WiFi.

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

Don't know if they go bad, but I have read that they are not exactly the best (at least the one that came on my 730)...I have read plenty of people complaining about them.

And well, the 9260 from Intel is better, plus gives you Bluetooth 5.0...And for only about $13 it was an easy decision Smiley Happy

Re: Slow WiFi on C930

Sounds like you installed the card that came with my PC.
