Stuck on “undoing changes made to computer” screen

2020-03-26, 15:45 PM
My computer was working fine yesterday all morning I went for a break and noticed it was updating so I left it longer. Came back to it and tried to turn it on as it had shut off and run out of battery. Once I turned it on it came up with the Lenovo sign then goes straight to an undoing changes made to computer sign and has been doing this for the past day, please help I have tried all the keys nothing works

Hi JaimeEllaway,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Perhaps if you try to check what particular update it is trying to apply and if there are also some other updates needed to install first.

You can share the KB update along with other options available.

Update us back soon as convenient.

Regards

Hi JaimeEllaway,

Would you have a recovery image to use for advance repair?

Initial attempt would be to have the advance boot option to show up.

Without the recovery image then you can try forcing it by turning the machine on and off three times.

Soon as you feel that Windows is starting, press down the power button to turn off and then 3-5 seconds to try powering it back.

This may take 2-3 series of on and off to trigger the advance boot.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Re:Stuck on “undoing changes made to computer” screen

Good Morning, I'm chiming in to this because I've shut it down the recommended times and it still will go back to the "undoing changes made to your computer" It will also act like it's rebooting and pulling up windows, only to flash a empty white box quickly then go right back to the message. It's like it's in a vicious cycle. I think it may be fried? One thing I do want to mention is it didn't have enough space for the updates so I bought a 1T external hard drive to do the Windows updates. I'm guessing it couldn't handle all the updates it did.

Add me to the list. I tried installing the update, after refusing to install it for months, and how I'm stuck in this update/can't update/undoing changes to your computer loop of death. I can't boot it up into safe mode, either by the normal F8/shift+F8 or the hard shutdown option mentioned above. Is it because this is a Yoga Book with a halo keyboard that doesn't really turn on in time? Even plugging in a USB keyboard doesn't work.

I'm going to keep trying the hard shutdown option, hoping the recovery screen kicks in, so I can load safe mode and uninstall these updates. What a mess.

Has anyone  found a solution? My computer is still in this boot loop with the undoing changes after it died during an update. It's been almost a year and I haven't been able to find solution!!!

Hi,

Was it a Lenovo update, or a microsoft windows 10 update? If microsoft, then I'd go to microsoft support and search there. They've always gotten back to me pretty quickly.

Thank you! Yes, it was the Microsoft update. I'd put it off for months as well because I wanted to get the external hard drive first. I knew it had to be connected every time I booted the computer up going forward, but never made it that far.

Is Lenovo know for their lack of space? I sure see alot of this issue with other people.

Thanks,

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

Edit: Oh, I got the posters (^ above) mixed up. :~\

So you did try the 'Advanced Boot Option' that spidey101 gave instructions for ^ above?

It looks like it may take 2 or 3 attempts (forced shut-downs - by holding down your power button, then waiting only 3-5 seconds before pressing power button again to turn your comp back on).

I don't think that Lenovo is known for a lack of hard drive space, any more than any other computer manufacturer. It just depends on what size HD your model came with when you purchased it. We purchased a Yoga 720 in 2017 with a 512GB SSD drive, and to date we've only used 125GB of its storage space.

But as mentioned, Microsoft Support has always gotten back to me rather quickly, with pretty comprehensive procedures/instructions for solving whatever issues I've had. I know it's frustrating these days not being able to find a phone number to call right away; but they do have one if you keep searching the: 'Help' > 'Contact Us' &c.

We used to live approx 20 miles east of Redmond, Washington, where the Microsoft campus is, and all thru the 90's and into the 2000's we could call them up on a local call phone # for us, and they'd typically answer right away. They even offered to come out to my home business to look-over how I was using Windows 95 & Excel & Outlook &c, to answer any questions I might have, and to demonstrate, analyze and/or make suggestions related to how I was using their mircosoft products &c, all for free ! Ahh, those were the days.

Good luck, and sorry I can't be of more help, but keep trying to reach the support specialists here, like spidey101 who messaged you ^ above.
