Actually,

it did solve the problem for just one day. Now USB is dead again. I cannot use the solution another time, because the BIOS is already updated and the tool quits because it recognizes the latest version.

What can I do? I've paid a lot of money for this device. I'm very disappointed.

Hi,

had the same problem many times, and finally got rid of it (the problem, not the computer) see my message there :

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/page/11/thread-id/30809#

If you try this, i strongly suiggest you make a backup of your datas through wifi (as this is the only thing working). Put your laptop right next to your wifi device/access point as you want to get every mbps available for the backup.

Re: USB ports on Yoga 3 Pro not working

... It has not always worked, since I also seem to have a wiggle contact at the main power plug. Also a BIOS update brought nothing. Fear and excitement at less then 20%, to lose my laptop completely, I have now bought a new (but not original) power supply. Seems to work. Anyhow, here is how I have solved it for many times:
1. Disconnect the main power plug from the laptop.
2. Close down important background programs manually.
3. Press the power button for at least 10 seconds.
4. Switch on the laptop, power up.
5. Reconnect the mains plug.
Good Luck!

...the wiggle contact at the power plug is yet to be proved as I have a new power supply but still the fear it may not work again one day.

Re: USB ports on Yoga 3 Pro not working

Honestly, this community is great! Thanks to all participants in this thread who are helping each other out. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about Lenovo. The Yoga 3 Pro once was the flagship model. All of us paid a lot of money for it. I still love this machine but it makes me angry that Lenovo is not making any move towards their customers.

As MaximeR said in one post, the proposed "solution" is not a solution at all. It's a way to work around the problem and it doesn't even seem to work for everyone.

Fortunately, it does work for me - at the moment. Eggymundo's workaround includes to enable the BIOS option to flash it with older versions and then reflash the BIOS with the latest version, again and again, everytime the USB ports die. I'm glad to be among the lucky ones, who are able to rather swiftly get USB back to work and move around this unacceptable situation.

But what about the ones for which this workaround doesn't work? Lenovo should compensate in one way or the other.

Totally agree with you. It's only a temporary solution (work-around) and is incredibly frustating. I will add that I also noticed that when the USB port died, so did the VGA/HDMI output also stopped working. Of course, I was in the middle of a 4 hour video conference so it was obviously a fun meeting without my periphials. :(

@Lenovo, do your job, RESOVLE the issues.

I have the same problem with the power cord! Good grief. I constantly have to watch it to make certain it's charging - especially since the battery life isn't nearly what was promised when purchased.

There is another different workaround that has worked for several people, as they have mentioned on the last pages of this thread. It's a really simple and fast solution:

"With the laptop on, just press the power button for about 30 seconds, that is shutting down the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and still pressing for a while after this. I did it with the charger unplugged. After turning on the laptop, the USB ports work again."

Re: USB ports on Yoga 3 Pro not working

I bought the lenovo yoga 3 pro when it first launched.  I have always used the original charger and I'm still having the same problem as everyone here.  It's quite ridiculous to pay over $1k for a laptop that:

1) Came installed with superfish out of the box.

2) Has had a various host of problems out of the box, including a screen bleed(which they did fix) and this problem which quite frnkly makes the laptop pretty much unusable.  I shouldn't have to install a new bios anytime I want to use the usb ports.

I will never buy another laptopfrom lenovo again, and I won't recommend these laptops to anyone.  The fact that they haven't even commented on this speaks volumes. I'm currently looking at Dell's xps line.
