Unable to access BIOS from Novo button

2014-10-12, 2:25 AM

This is my first time posting to the forum so if you need me to be more descriptive or provide any information, I can.

I bought a Yoga 2 Pro about 3 weeks ago.  It came pre-installed with Windows 8.1.  Besides updating drivers and updating the BIOS (which worked successfully), I haven't made any major changes to the computer.  I had accessed the BIOS at some point with the novo button, but I am unable to access the BIOS now.

If I try to access the BIOS through the novo button, a black screen comes up.  All other parts of the novo button work besides the BIOS. If I try to access "UEFI firmware settings" through Windows 8.1, it leads me to a black screen with a white cursor.  For the most part the computer seems to be working fine (I'm not under the impression that the BIOS flash failed in any way.

I'm trying to get secure boot turned off so I can boot from USBs and I want dependable access to the BIOS.

Is there an easy fix for this?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try flashing the latest BIOS. Maybe this will fix the issue.

The latest flash I did was Kona which is the most recent BIOS. I tried to
reflash Kona through the application but because it's the same version it
won't let me reflash. Any ideas?

If that works, let me know. I will tell you to do a few things to your BIOS.

I can't access the BIOS from the "UEFI firmware settings" like what was shown in the video.  If I go through this process, it reboots the computer, the Lenovo splash screen comes up, then it directs me to a black screen with an unblinking white underscore at the top left hand corner.

Do you still have warranty? If so, you should consider this route.

Else, you might need to use an external programmer, connect it directly to your BIOS and reflash that baby.

I ended up returning the laptop and decided not to buy another.

Good call.  There has been sooooo many times I have regretted this purchase.
