Video display glitch after c940 14 BIOS update?

2020-01-23, 17:39 PM

So far this BIOS update has been nothing but perfect, but I've been encountering video display issues after the update. These are the things that have happened (starting after a reboot):

All is fine, videos load normally. I leave a video paused and do something else. After a while, I notice an occasional hard jitter from my screen (as if something is being opened or moved) inside the video. I have no peripheral attatchements or anything that could be causing this manually. This jitter happens also sometimes at random when playing videos. At one time, a video started scrolling itself to the left at a constant speed, sometimes it gets shifted to the left and gets stuck outside the video screen, and other glitches of the sort (which don't happen too occasionally but they do).

The second and most serious part: the color red in videos is being seen as shown in the image I attached. After a reboot, this issue, disappears, but the hard jitter comes back and it starts happening again. The most accurate way I can describe is that it looks like the red that appears when using video made for red/blue 3D glasses. I cannot take a direct screenshot of this happening since it goes away in the print screen edit menu, but I did include a picture of the issue taken with my phone. In the photo it isn't too noticable but irl it is quite noticeable. This only started right after the BIOS c940 update, so I'm pretty sure it might be the cause of it. Any help is appreciated!

PC: Lenovo c940 14 UHD on Windows 1909

After some browsing, turns out it's an option called "Hardware acceleration" on all browsers which caused this. Not sure how the new BIOS started triggering this, but if anyone needs a solution, found it on reddit post

How to fix:

"To keep hardware accelerated features on and have the right colours without it switching constantly:

  • Go to Chrome's flags for the colour profile section (chrome://flags/#force-color-profile)

  • Select the scRGB linear (HDR when available) option.

  • Restart Chrome!"

Works also for the new Edge Chromium: edge://flags/#force-color-profile

This helped me too

Ah, I have no idea how to fix it outside of Chrome sadly.
