W7 on Yoga 2 Pro?

2013-12-03, 4:19 AM

Hi,

My Yoga  2 Pro came preinstall with W8.1  After playing with it for a couple of weeks, I just absolutely hate W8.1 and realize that it's not built for IT developer in mind. I use it mostly for work, developing application, and most of the business and tools that I use need to be in the desk top app

My question is have anyone here tried to install W7 on a Yoga 2 Pro and is it a good idea to go down to W7 from 8.1?

Thanks

I have not changed the operating system, but Sart8 and ModernMix from StarDock allow you to use desktop exclusively and have a traditional start menu.

They have time limited trials and both together only cost $7.99.

That's a big no!

Install StarDock or classic shell

In Windows 8.1 Pro you have many options to tweak with gpedit.msc

I got Start8 and MonderMix. Start8 works great! Give me back the familiar W7 navigation and all my important deskop SW and domcuments. Thanks very much for the advise.

W8 apps does't look that nice in desktop environment using ModernMix but hey for 5.00 can't complain too much.

I heard rumour 8.2 update will come out in Jan 2014 that will fully restore W7 navigation looks and feel.

**bleep** MS! No wonder they are where they are.

Good thread.  I may have to give one of these a try.

My guess is that this is more likely to happen in Fall of 2014.

Yoga 2 Pro is built for Windows 8.1,  and  its the best option.  If concerned about the start screen, then just right click taskbar.> properties > Navigation Pane and selection start into desktop.  This way, after sign-in you will directly go to traditional desktop like Windows 7.

Better way is to imagine Start screen as a dynamic, useful and touch friendly replacement to traditional start menu.  I actually start liking it this way, and never going back.

Windows 8.1 is also much optimized in terms of performance, startup speed and with better performance and monitoring of file transfer, etc   I dont see any point in downgrading to Windows 7, as everything that runs on  Windows 7 runs on Windows 8 better.
