Looks like I'll need to order a second one too. The current one is... finicky. I don't like to tear down these power bricks unless necessary. I thought it was the cable originally, but it looks like there might be a bit too much flex in the design of the NEMA 15 prongs. I have to poke it a few times to get the plug to work right

I have searched for some answers to better understand this power adaptor.
Notice the output specification on the adaptor is: 20V DCV 2.0A OR 5.2DCV 2.0A.
OK so show me the details on that. Dual output I assume if I change the output cord to one with a micro USB it will also charge my phone, never assume!
Lastly who was the designer of this? You missed the boat by a day or two. Consider a slide out portion for the plug as Apple uses, Artic uses, OH YES others than Apple so there is not a design patent issue, that would allow a figure 8 slide in so you could use the thing in a work environment and it would be more flexable.
And lastly the price of a new one is around $79 US$!?!? Come on we purchase powwer supplies in China too and they run about 14 to 24 RMB, that is about $2.5 to $4.0 US$

I haven't done any electrical tests, but I presume the 20V bus is only enabled when a Y3P does proper handshaking over the USB data lines, similar to current quick chargers.
As noted above, the charger is a standard 5.2V 2A power supply. There are two more proprietary power lines that output 20V at 2A to charge the laptop.
Sadly, the hightened costs is probably due to this feature alone. The USB cable connectors seem to be 100% proprietary, which means an increased production cost.

Looks like the power adapter info is a well-kept secret at Lenovo.
The part number I got from "Phyllis" at Lenovo was Part #GX20H34904...its on order; I cannot validate that it works, but I will report back.
Link for part -Lenovo Accessories Link
Agent ID - 2900717372. When you complete the checkout, place it in the Agent ID field; she deserves some credit for knowing this...

No, you cannot use any USB cable. Normal USB cables have 4 Connector PINS and give you 5V. The Lenovo Cable has 6 Connector PINs and gives you 20V.
The Power Adapter recognized which type of cable you connect and then you get 5V or 20V. If you connect a normal USB cable your Y3P will NOT charge. But you can connect a normal USB to microUSB and charge your phone with it for example.
At the moment there are no adapters or cables from other vendors. You have to buy them from the lenovo shop.
