Windows 10 Pro VGA drivers

2018-06-15, 20:31 PM

I've downloaded the drivers from pcsupport.lenovo.com for my Yoga 900 13ISK running Windows 10 pro

I've also downloaded a version from Intel

and then there is the standard VGA driver that comes with Windows

With the standard driver I have no brightness control, its just on full and bright

With the Lenovo driver I have serious screen flicker to the point where the laptop is unusable.

And the Intel driver errors out and will not install.

Where can I get a VGA driver that works?  Thanks

The latest 1803 Windows 10 Update (June 12, 2018—KB4284835 (OS Build 17134.112))  is supposed to fix the brightness issue, so if you have not yet applied the latest Windows Update, you might want to try it.

June 12, 2018—KB4284835 (OS Build 17134.112)

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4284835/windows-10-update-kb4284835

  • Addresses an issue with the brightness controls on some laptops after updating to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

Regarding applying the latest Intel video drivers (Link for Intel HD 520), you have to download the .zip version of the applicable graphics driver for your system from the Intel website and then follow these instructions to install them manually.

Cheers,

Re: Windows 10 Pro VGA drivers

I uninstalled both Display Adapter and Monitor

Then I reinstalled the drivers from Lenovo

That gave me a ..

Display Adpater Intel (R) HD Graphics 520 5/26/2016  Version 20.19.15.4463

Monitor Generic PnP Monitor from Microsoft 6/21/2006 10.0.17134.1

and with these drivers I can adjust the brightness of the screen but the screen is flickering so much the laptop is unusable.

and yet these are the drivers this link is recommending to install.

Is there another option, one that works?

Re: Windows 10 Pro VGA drivers

Hello again

After suffering another short session of flicking screen, with reboots just to make sure, I decided to run Windows Update.

This automatically installed Intel HD Grpahics 520 with a different version of 21.20.16.4550 dated 11/11/2016. It did not change the Generic PnP Monitor driver.

The flicking stopped.  But now I cannot adjust the brightness of the screen.

It appears that this laptop can only do one or the other

Did you try the Intel drivers I provided a link for earlier using the manual installation instructions?

Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 (Version: 24.20.100.6136 (Latest) Date: 6/5/2018)

Manually Install an Intel® Graphics Driver in Windows® 10 and Windows* 8/8.1

If they still fail to work, then to possibly rule out the driver as the issue, try switching to the default Windows "Basic Display Adapter" graphics driver.

How to switch to Window's Basic Display Adapter driver
  • Right-click on Start and select "Device Manager"
  • Expand the Display Adapters section, right-click on your Intel Grapics Adapter and select Update Driver.
  • Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
  • Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
  • Scroll down and select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, and select Next
  • Reboot if prompted

Cheers,

Sorry for the delay in replying...

the Intel link you supplied downloads and then says it is not compatible with my device, so doesn't install.  It suggests going to Lenovo support, which is a laugh because the Automatic Driver Update installs Lenovo Bridge, (everytime) and then displays an Error occurred while downloading packages. The manual Select Driver Update is my our friend the flicking screen driver.

If I Update the Monitor driver the only option in the list is Generic PnP Monitor, which is what's there anyway. Microsoft basic Display is not in the list.

The Lenovo driver is unusable. The Intel driver is burning a hole in my eyes. Should have bought a Dell.

I misread the Basic Display Adapter, thought it was the Monitor driver so of course it wasn't there.

I have just changed the Display Adapter to this, but still no brightness control and its on full brightness all the time.  The control goes up and down, but still changes nothing.

Re: Windows 10 Pro VGA drivers

The solution to the problem of both Lenovo and Intel being unable to produce a screen driver between them, that does what it is supposed to do, i.e. adjust the brightness using the brightness controls, and not flicker so much as to render the laptop unusable, is to stop wasting your time searching for a driver that does not exist

and install flux.

This then allows for a form of brightness control, so my Yoga is no longer burning holes into my eyeballs.  Thank you flux.

1 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too

Did you ever find a different solution to this problem? I've done the same as you with f.lux (thanks for the pointer) but it really is a last resort and I'm not happy than the Intel driver issue is still not solved.
