Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

I have a blog on wordpress (hosted on their servers). A post typically has lots of pictures as thumbnails (no, it's not a mucky site!).

When I view a page on my old machine (XP, latest firefox or opera) everything is fine. The thumbnails load as thumbnails.

However, when I load the same page on my Y2P, all the thumbnails load as expected then, when they have finished, they all download and display as the FULLSCALE (1600x1200pixel) pictures.  What should be a 2MB page of thumbnails ends up being 70MB of traffic.  The humungous size of the pictures also messes-up the flow of text and pictures.

I have tried (latest versions of) Firefox, Opera, Chrome and MSIE on the Y2P. Same result.  It is also the same for numerous different pages on my blog.

I have googled the problem and the only useful result was a wordpress plug-in intended to refresh thumbnail sizes for people  who have recently changed wordpress theme (which I haven't).  However, I assume that this only applies to people who are hosting their own content, as there is no method to apply the plug-in when wordpress themselves are doing the hosting.

Therefore, I assume it is something to do with win8 or the hi-def screen on the Y2P.  Is this another 'Photoshop'-like problem ?   A page from my blog is here.  Pictures should be 150px thumbnails.

any ideas ?

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

Have restored machine back to factory settings.  The problem is the same.

Could some folks take a look at the link and say whether the small thumbnails stay small or grow to 1600px wide;  and what res screen they are using . . .   TIA

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

Hi Jack!

Sorry to chime in so late. Was checking out your blog and my results as follows.

Y2P - Chrome - Some pic blown up, some still in thumbnail
Y2P - IE - Some pic blown up, some pic still in thumbnail (its like opposite to Chrome) - Worst
MBP 13" RD - Chrome - Same like Y2P in Chrome
MBP 13" RD - Safari - Same like Y2P in Chrome

I did not see like how you did where all the pictures got blown up to 1600 x 1200.

Win Chrome version - Version 38.0.2125.101 m

Let me know ...

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

Hi

thanks very much for taking a look.

I have just managed to find someone at wordpress inc. to look at this, but they can't replicate the problem (but then they aren't using a Yoga2Pro).

Would you be able to post some screenshots of what you see on your Y2P?
This is how it should be; this is what I get.  Perhaps you could screenshot the same area (from this page) and post it/them here.  I can then pass the screenshots onto wordpress to illustrate.

Also, are you able to measure how much data is transferred when loading a page? (I suspect that the full sized pictures are still loaded in the background, even in cases where only the thumbnails are displayed).  This page takes 12MB for me, when it should be about 400KB.  How is it for you ?

thanks a lot

Jack
p.s. I will probably leave you alone after this :)

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

Morning Jack!

I am currently not with my Y2P now however I will take a look at this when I am home. Also the snapshot which you have provided in your latest post is not reflecting the one which you provided in your first post.

Can I have the URL to the snapshot which you provided in your latest post?

Separately, what tool do you use to monitor the amount of data downloaded for that particular webpage? I can try to use the tool from my end too.

Anyway don't worry about bothering me, I am here to help (^___^)///

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

Hi ExJJ

thanks for the help

the blog post is this one - the screencaps are from about 70% down the page.

I use a couple of different traffic monitors, including this freeware one.

thanks

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

I am still in my other home without my Y2P. This is what I got from my MBP Pro 13".  -> link

I don't see like what you see in your 2nd URL (The one that its suppose to display)

I don't think this is a Y2P issue though

Re: Wordpress/Thumbnail problem on Y2P

Hey man ... sorry for the late response, I forgotten about this yesterday. Please see my findings here

I am using Chrome browser Version 38.0.2125.101 m

Also I tried downloading the tool to monitor the amount of data downloaded for a particular webpage however it does not support Win 8 also it wants to install a Chrome Extension on it which I don't want.

Let me know if you need further help mate.
