Y2P - graphics driver issues while in tablet mode

2014-08-23, 13:56 PM

Whenever I play games like Hearthstone in regular laptop mode everything is fine.   However every time I switch to tablet, tent or stand mode, after less than a minute of playing, I get the error “"display driver stopped responding and has recovered".   I even updated my Y2P to the latest Intel graphics driver and it didn’t help.   I think it’s something about the tablet mode that’s making the graphics card or processor not function fully.

Has anyone else experienced any issues like this in tablet mode?   Is there a solution?

Disable DPTF.

If that does not help, I will write you a program that spits out a few numbers. You can then write down the numbers and share them with me.

Essentially, I will want to see if your computer spits out the same number(s) for both Tent, Kiosk and tablet mode. If it does, then it means the game could also crash in tent mode, however, the onmessage call the system makes crashes the driver. If the numbers are different, it means that the different modes run different profiles. I would check on my comp but, my computer is set up differently than most (lol). My computer runs custom drivers that fixes some BS bugs with the comp. Hence, my state onmsg calls are different than yours.

This helped me too

Disabling DPTF worked.   I played two games in tablet mode and the graphics driver didn't crash.

Are there any significant concequences to keeping DPTF disabled?

CPU is no longer underclocked = more CPU usage = less battery + more heat in tablet mode.

Is there any danger with the laptop overheating?   I played a bunch of games last night in tablet mode and I had no graphics issues but the bottom the laptop got really hot.   It didn't bother me but I'm just worried that it might damage something from overheating.

In theory, it can shorten battery life.

Also, if it gets way too hot, it could potentially fry the CPU or crack the glass on the screen.

Again, all this is theoretical.
