YOGA 710-14IKB speakers not working (but headphones do)

Hi everyone!

 

A couple of days ago I took my yoga to work and was using my headphones and since then I cannot get the speakers to work. I can still use my headphones and the sound works just fine. I had a similar issue once before, but with the microphone, not the speakers but managed to fix that myself.

 

I updated the drivers and rebooted my laptop. When I go on playback devices the speakers are active and supposedly working (e.g. when I have music playing in the background it shows it moving on the bars, but I cannot hear anything). I also ran the Windows Audio Troubleshooter which did not help.

 

I also had a system update two days ago, but the speakers were not working prior to that. I doubt that it is a hardware problem, considering that the speakers were working fine just before I plugged my headphones in.

 

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

Hi there, Naggash -  

 

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

 

It is possible that you didn't set your speaker as the default speaker.

In your notification panel, right click the speaker > playback device. Right click the speaker you want and set it to default device. It should be High Definition Audio Device.

Hi,

 

Thanks for providing me with the link; unfortunately, it does not help as the device is already enabled. However, if I do plug in my headphones, it does not show them as a playback device. 

 

I have also found this which did not help: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-hardware/builtin-speakers-not-working-bu... (I am not going to do a system restore, because that is fairly unhelpful advice and should be the absolute last option).

 

I have also checked this: https://support.lenovo.com/gb/de/solutions/HT503497 but the “Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller" cannot be found and it already shows “High Definition Audio Controller" without having to do anything.

 

What else would you recommend I do? Like I said, a system restore or sending the laptop in (it is only 4 months old) is not an option.

Did the issue get resolved?

 

There is a sensor in the headphone jack that tells the computer to turn the speakers off when there is headphones plugged in, and sometimes that sensor gets jammed and the computer thinks there is headphones plugged in when there isn't.
