When the laptop is connecting to the power source and charging the screen will not function, alI I can see is a black screen. When the power cord is remove the laptop is now functioning .

With the power cord removed (so you can see), tap the Windows key and go to Settings > System > Power and Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Change plan settings. Look at the brightness slider under the "plugged in" column. Drag it all the way to the right and click "save changes."
