Andy1990zx did the sensor and bios info help you locate anything? My problem is exactly like dennyas, same symptoms works for a while then quits.

Re: Yoga 13 Auto Rotate

wcl61, I took mine back to Best Buy yesterday. :( Like clockwork, after it was on for about an hour, the display image would flip 90 degrees, at which point the automatic rotation would stop working, and the keyboard/touchpad would intermittently stop working until you suspended/resumed. Tried a reinstall, even tried installing Windows fresh from an MSDN image and just adding necessary drivers, still happened. Which makes me think it has to be a hardware failure in my unit -- a sensor or i/o chip heating up after a period of use and failing.

This could be a driver crashing after a certain amount of time of the system up and running, but I've had it start working again after being off/suspended for a couple of hours, which really seems to indicate it's a heat issue with a marginal part. If it was a driver issue, I'd think we'd see more people reporting the problem.

At any rate, with no response on the issue yet from Lenovo and the many hours I put into troubleshooting it, I decided to return my unit for now. Best Buy is out of stock or I'd have tried again. If they get more units in, I'll likely buy another one and hope this one's less problematic.

Re: Yoga 13 Auto Rotate

Until recently I've only had the auto screen rotation stop working for me very intermittenty and a hard reboot would usually fix the problem.  But today I couldn't make the screen auto-rotate even after many reboots (and I really wanted to use the Yoga in tent mode).  So I tried running msconfig to disable all non-Microsoft services and discovered that the auto screen rotation and the button on the side were working again.

Therefore, I was able to track down the offending service -- Lenovo ymc.  Disabling this service fixes auto screen rotation and the side button, at least for me.  I don't know what this service does or what functionality I've lost by turning it off.

To disable the ymc service on your Yoga: Open Charms, search for & run msconfig, check Selective Startup, go to the Services tab, uncheck ymc, press OK and restart.  You probably also have BTDevManager and Nalpeiron Licensing Service disabled too.

mikey,

Try it again with the system running for a while, though. In my case it wasn't Lenovo ymc, because I went as far as doing a fresh install of Win 8 from a generic Win 8 disc and still had the rotation issues. The ymc service wasn't installed.

Hope you did solve the problem on your unit!

I returned mine, and BB hasn't gotten any new units for me to try again with.

I don't have anything new to add, except that this is an issue for me too. I just received my Yoga (I7, 8gb ram, 256hd, clementine orange).

For me, the system will stop detecting the screen rotation intermittantly. The device manager has shown the hid sensor driver failing (sometimes the regular hid driver, other times something called the "mini hid"). I don't think this problem has anything to do with heat, as mine will fail while the system is cool. Maybe the sensor itself is loose? It could of course just be a software problem.

I don't feel this is worth returning the laptop over, at least not yet. I'll give Lenovo a little time to iron out the bug, though it would be nice to see some sort of response here in the forum as I have little faith that I'd get anywhere phoning tech support. Clearly we need a patch of some kind.

The reason I think it's hardware related is that it has never happened with my second Yoga. Now, you might have something else installed that's causing the crash, but given how frequently it happened with my first one, and that it never happens with my second one that's running the same driver versions, unfortunately it seems like a hardware failure to me.

Re: Yoga 13 Auto Rotate

I played around with the Yoga 13 at BestBuy and the first thing I noticed was the screen would not rotate properly.  My first impression was this device is flawed.  Sort of like having a showroom car that will not start.  Overall I really like the design in that the screen will flip around but given this and other reported issues with the WIFI I think Lenovo needs to get their Engineers to work and fix these problems.  I will NOT purchase this device until I see that these issues are fixed and I begin to see better reviews from owners.  Are you listening Lenovo?????

In the showroom its a good chance that once per hour someone inadvertantly toggles the orientation lock... one of the few extruded buttons on the edge.
