Yoga 13 Does not detect Samsung PM841 256GB Mini PCIe mSATA

Original SSD failed. Purched new drive noted in subject line.

Bios does not detect drive in either slot on motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I do not have recovery media, but I do have another functional Yoga13.

Can I copy the recovery partitions to usd and boot from that?

Hi TomCook and welcome to the community,

In theory you could create a clone of the other Yoga Hdd and then use that in the failed one. Dont see any reason why the SSd you purchased wouldnt be working on the machine, Have you tested to see if the SSd work on another machine.

Hope this help you and let us know how you get on

Re: Yoga 13 Does not detect Samsung PM841 256GB Mini PCIe mSATA

I have a msata to usb adaptor and the drive shows using that. Is there anything in the bios I need to change to have the system recognise the new drive? Typically, the bios can identify drives attached.

I tried the drive in each bay and no go from either. Seems like something else is going on.

Any other thoughts?

I will try cloning the other drive soon.

Re: Yoga 13 Does not detect Samsung PM841 256GB Mini PCIe mSATA

Hi,

I don't have a direct answer for you but a question or two:

Does the drive show up if you do a warm restart?  CTRL-ALT-DEL (which may or may not warm restart).

I ask because I've seen issues where an SSD initializes too slowly to be recognized with the timeout period of the BIOS probe code.  In some cases they've show up on a warm restart. Depends whether and how the BIOS intializes things in that situation.

Have you checked Samsung's site for any firmware updates?  If my speculation (or other...) is correct a firmware update via your adapter might help.

Just tossing stuff at the wall here...

Z.
