Please look at this Lenovo! The fan needs to have some kind of higher threshold before starting.

Same problem here, fan won't stop even if you have it idling for a couple of hours.

I found the cause for WMIPRVSE.exe using around 4 % cpu all the time. It's the Realtek Bluetooth service called: BTDevManager. Disable that service and the WMI won't bother you again.

I thought that was the issue causing my fans to run all the time, but it wasn't.

Please Lenovo: Do something about it!! I paid 1600 euro for this notebook! I want it to be silent when browsing :)

Maybe we should write a mail to some journals about this issue and try to get them writing an article about it.

At least about the poor support without any information. Some time ago someone posted a link of another discussion in this community, about the same problem with another laptop. The thread had over 1000 pages, started over a year ago and is still discussed, and same as here, there is no answer or help from lenovo.... The reaction of lenvo on this link was... deleting the message.... yeah what else.... would be to difficult to help their customers...

i've just checked mine and it seems it's 49. it's weird that you've any issue with the system. can you please check the running applications? and also can you check installed windows update? is it also possible to re-install the system by pressing one key recover button? it's possible that it's driver issue but we need to find what it is.

Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

Hi yigit,

Thnx for replying. I have installed the Yoga myself (I needed Win8 Enterprise for work related stuff).

I have done nothing special: Whiped the HD, Installed Win8 using UEFI boot USB device, installed drivers from Lenovo site.

But even before that I thought that the fans were running quite a lot.

I don't think this is related to the OS installed, since some other people reported having this problem out of the box.

Below you'll find a screenshot of the temperatures of my machine. The only thing you can't see on the screenshot is that values for the 2 cores seem to be changing sporadically from 39 to 41 C. Maybe the sensors are being fooled? I tried everything from disabling/enabling Intel's Thermal stuff. I initially though it was due to WMIPRVSE.exe doing stuff all the time (which I found out was the BlueTooth driver from Realtek), but after fixing that the fans are still running a lot.

I really hope you can fix this (of have some engineer take a look at it). I would be happy to run some debug program on my laptop, of be contacted by an engineer. I'm a software engineer myself and I might be able to do some further searching into this problem.

Thnx in advance!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to add another data point into the discussion... I have not had the 'metallic noises' from my fans, but they do run practically 100% of the time except for the first 30 seconds or so from startup. It is very noticeable!

I returned my first YOGA 13 to BestBuy to find the issue continued to repeat itself with the second...

I've played with a few of the other Ultrabooks on the market right now, and I think the YOGA is the best product out there EXPECT for this fan issue! I hope Lenovo address this quickly... it is a dealbreaker!

This is becomming really annoying! Now there's some high frequency pitch alongside the fan noise.

These issues shoud really be reolved!

Calling Lenovo support tomorrow!

That high frequency noise is coil whine and has been a problem for years.  I had never heard of it until a week or so ago when I exchanged my first Yoga for a second, but both have the issue and I'm sure all of them do if the user can hear it.  I'm trying to ignore it cause I want to keep this, but there's still a chance I will return it for good in the coming weeks.

I know how you feel. The whining noise goes away after some time, but the fan still keeps going.

I can forgive the whining...since this is a common problems (as you said, more people are having this issue). But the fans are something that should really be fixed. I think (just a thought) that it has something to due with the keyboard. Mine is a bit loose at the top right side (above the F9 and F10 keys). You can feel it when you type. It seems that the Yoga's air flow system has something to do with the keyboard (I can feel the air flow with my hands). Also, it developed a noise (like a metallic part clicking on another metallic part) every time I come near the F9 and F10 keys.

I might have to send this unit back. Too bad though...I really like this notebook. It has the ideal form factor for me.

I have almost no perceptible fan noise in my normal tablet mode. I use it in an overly warm room with a bit of ambient background noise. In laptop mode there is a faint whoosh with virtually no metallic overtones. And no soft f keys... maybe my extra physical bank of memory helps all these issues. I have heard the fans roar like a jet due to some passing config problem, so I am not deaf. Also my MacBook pro fans annoy me. These comments apply to running with speakers off, but once I found how to turn Dolby on for the speakers, I like to run with music anyway.
