Sorry to say, but I returned the Yoga due to the fan noise.

To bad, I liked everything else with it.

Each day I debate back and forth if I will return it or not.  It's really hard cause I LOVE it so much and the Yoga-feature of it is one-of-a-kind right now and is exactly what I want.  The coil whine/lots of fan is really something I don't want to deal with though.

Returned my Yoga because of the fan noise. I loved it otherwise. Maybe if this issue is ever fixed I'll pick up a new one.

Does every model have coil whine or should I try to exchange it again?  I see my local Best Buy has them in stock now so at least I won't have to drive forever this time, but then I have to start all over again.

Has anyone had success with a fan noise return to lenovo, not best buy?

The first fan in my unit would run all the time, until it got stuck and started grinding half the time instead.

I sent it in for warranty service, hoping it'd be fixed. They replaced the whole heatsink/fan assembly, but it still runs 100% of the time and now makes a high-pitched whining noise instead (though this might be the motherboard).

I'm in the process of trying to return it to Lenovo.

First time Lenovo user here. Bought the i5 128gb orange clementine version. I was hoping that this would be an isolated issue (I've been lurking these forums for a while) but alas, it seems that mine does have the high pitch fan whine as well. Fortunately (?) for me, I'm kind of used to fan noises from large desktops so as long as I keep my distance, it's tolerable for the most part. The fan whine is still extremely unpleasant though.

However, sometimes the fan runs slower, and everything is nice and idyllic again. It seems like peace is definitely an option, so perhaps Lenovo can issue a fix for this fan?

a high pitch noise sounds strange. Of course you can go to bestbuy to compare it with the display model there.

Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

Just got my Yoga this morning. The first thing I noticed was a loud buzzing noise from the moment I turned the machine on. It's been over an hour now and the sound is constant. My machine was manufactured on 12/12/11. I can't imagine keeping this machine. I often work in quiet places and am sure this noise would annoy everyone around me. I'm bummed because I was really excited to receive this laptop, only to return it in less than 24 hours.

normally it takes a few hours for new computers to update the os (win8 in this case), BIOS and the drivers, which can be very noisy. Wait a day or so.
