Bloo, Instead of BIOS settings or tablet/stand/laptop, i would prefer power plan settings. You already have there settings for DPTF and CPU throttle. Power saver mode can limit TDP, throttle cpu (heh, ATOMize :) it ), or whatever is necessary to keep temperature down. I believe you need to combine slower fan response with performance strangulation. Otherwise the fan is just delayed a minute.

i'm having the same problem, bottom of the unit is uncomfortably warm.  core temp determined it is hitting 68 degrees Celsius (over 150 degrees F).  glad to hear i'm not the only one; might have to return it as I'm concerned about the long-term longevity of a device that is prone to overheating.

Pas, that noise is coil whine, and is caused by that transition from different CPU states, like you said.  It is incredibly annoying and I wish they would have just used higher quality coils to prevent this from happening.  It's been an issue for years with Lenovo and other laptop manufacturers, but not all of them.

Thanks, UNSCleric.

So sending it in for repairs wouldn't rectify the issue?  As a workaround, it would be nice if Lenovo offered a BIOS setting to disable CPU power management, so we could prevent the processor from entering into noisy states.

pas: According to another thread, following the instructions in the Workaround section of this page disables some of the low power states and stops the coil whine.  I haven't tried it though, so I can't vouch for it.  Obviously you're also going to get lower battery life by doing this.

Thanks for the heads up.  I replied in the other thread.

I have read stories about people getting their laptops back (I think even the Yoga) and it still always has the coil whine.  One guy opened up like seven Yoga ultrabooks at Best Buy and all of them had it too.  I returned my first one due to it and the second one has it too.

Great! Cant wait for this update! I understand that thin machines need more cooling, but hearing your computer in idle, from a 2 metres distance is not normal :P

Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

I have noticed that there is loud fan noise coming from this laptop mainly the left fan.  It is not buzzing or hitting anything just the fact that at idle this thing is feeling really loud.  I would like to send it in for service but what would even be done?  Is there any way we can get a hold of the update that is promised us in a few weeks? I guess I will try to hold out and wait for it before deciding if this is truly a defect.  Please let me know Lenovo support.  Thank you much!
