Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

2013-03-01, 23:55 PM

I don't think a recall would help...its not the fans, its their pathetic software. I have a feeling someone who had never seen the laptop wrote the algorithm and just wanted to be on the safe side so they made the threshold so low.

I really expected more of Lenovo when I bought this. This would never happen with the thinkpads back in the day. Lenovo is just ruining IBM if you ask me. This same problem is happening on their u300 and u400 laptops too!

I purchased my yoga just a couple weeks ago and I'm having a huge fan noise problem.

The fan turns on instantly as soon as I power on this device...is that suppose to happen?

Is it suppose to be loud when only doing minimal activities like browsing the web or using word processor?

No its not. It doesn't happen on any other brand so why should it happen on a $1100+ computer?

A lot of you are facing this problem obviously. But could you please take a video of the fan noise and upload it? Its really hard to get a true picture of what the different noises sound like. The thing is the noise could actually be acceptable for some people whereas others might want a completely silent machine. So please upload a video its not that hard!:smileyhappy:

You definitely have a point there. This is supposed to be a premium machine.

I've been asking for people to record video of it for literally 2+ months now and have never seen a single one.

@androiddude

Well, I guess the problem ist not only the fan algorithm. High-quality fans have often a less db(A) and the same cooling efficiency then cheaper products. And just look at these customers who have the fan making noise beacuse it's touching the housing.

Maybe the Lenovo Yoga 13  needs a redesign?

@ adnan5535

On a video my camera always filters the background noises so a video wouldn't help that much, but i can tell you that in a silent room the fan  is hearable very clearly and when you just listen to music you can still hear it in the background...

I think this is what happens when you buy a laptop made in china by a chinese company.  This is anything but what IBM used to be.  I've had 7 laptops in the past from different brands.  Never did I have this many problems before!  My touchscreen stops working when I plug in a USB mouse, my fan is as loud as a laptop from the early 00's, and my wifi signal is the slowest and least reliable of any i've had in the past few years.  To add insult to injury, these guys are using a SATA II controller with a SATA III hard drive.  Pretty sad and pathetic indeed.  This will be my first and last Lenovo.  Back to more reliable brands.

I forgot about that problem! Mine luckily doesn't have a hardware problem, its only really loud.

I cant take a video because when I tried, my camera just filtered out the background noise which it thought was the fan so it would be a completely silent video :)

I'm not sure if I agree with the Chinese part, but you're right, Lenovo is nothing like IBM. Yeah the SATA II was dumb choice. Luckily I bought this from Costco so I can see if Lenovo fixes it within the 90 days they give you to return it. I bought a acer s7 now and the fan is silent unless you go do some gaming or 1080p youtube. Even then, its not as loud as the idle speed on this.
