Another update:

The files should replicate to our download servers overnight US time (I don't have access to those servers, so I had to get help there) and once I have verified the download links, I'll publish a KB article linked to this board with links and instructions (I'm assured I can publish KB articles.. We'll see how that goes).  With any luck, you'll be able to download the update tomorrow.  You will need a DOS boot key to run the EC flash.

For those who asked, no, our repair centers will not be instructed to apply this EC. This is a special version specifically for owners who are (1) unhappy with the fan noise and (2) OK with having a warmer thermal profile in exchange for less fan noise.  Since not everyone falls into both these categories, we're leaving it up to individual owners to decide if they want to apply the EC.  The KB article will also have a link to an EC flash that will restore the original thermal table should you wish to undo the changes.

Bloo

I hope you also ship a software to create this DOS boot key. I don't want to google a whole day to get this thing working.

What kind of changes are made? Higher threshold before the fans kick on? If so, based on cpu temp or what I assume is a chipset/mobo sensor (typically stays ~34c idle while the cpu cores are ~40c idle)?

I ask because I'm a tech junkie and I like to know how exactly something's going to affect my system. It'd be cool if we could set the threshold (temp at which the fans start to come on), though with a certain top-end limit to not allow people to fry their laptops.

This won't void our warranty, will it?

Higher threshold before the fans kick in would be terrible if that's the only change.

Macbook Air runs at 2000rpm in idle and produces 29db vs 35db on Yoga.

Making the fan to run at really low RPMs until some threshold would help greatly rather than having the fan to stop completely and then run with high speed. I had that on my HP DV5t  and it was terrible.

I fully agree that it would be better if they had the main fan run at lower rpm while idle. That would be preferable to a constant on/off cycle if the ambient conditions are enough to cause the cpu temp to continuously go above the threshold.

Most likely we'll end up sticking around for a couple new renditions of this fix til they get it "just right".

Well, the lenovo download page is driving me crazy... "choose the support you need", but the buttons don't do anything...

Can't even find the last BIOS update I performed on the yoga, which is a little disconcerting...

Bloo, or anyone, of you have a direct download link to the new BIOS, that would be swell. Thanks.

Thanks/Vielen Dank ;)

I guess they need to update the links... strange that the 'old' BIOS update disappeared. Pretty sure I did one...
