Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

I love how some of you think being ethugs in a forum is going to get this fixed. The laptop works, this is a pretty trivial issue. I certainly hope Lenovo gets it sorted but the tantrums some of you are throwing are silly.

Relax. :)

While I appreciate your coolness, greystone, it is not as simple as that for me. My laptop is my primary tool and I use it to make a living of it. On this one I spent quite a lot of money. And people in the office are complaining about my device. They even asked me if I wanted to get another workspace since my computer is just disturbing due to the noise. This seriously affects my job and I cannot simply say 'whatever'.
But you are definitely right when you say we should stay polite. My anger is not directed at Bloo (not at all) but goes straight to Lenovo.
Anyways, I'll try to be nice now. Thank you for the reminder (seriously)

If your laptop is loud enough to bother other users in an office then you've got a bigger problem than the one most of us have. Even when playing games and maxing the Yoga out mine isn't louder than most laptops. The fix we are looking for here is about the fans always running (fairly quietly) even with minimal load.

If you're running it for long periods under high load this isn't the right machine to be using, IMO.

While I can to a VERY small extent understand why the fan speed ramps up with temperature, I do not understand why the fans don't return to their OFF position when the temps fall below a threshold.  There doesn't seem to be any OFF threshold once the fans are activated.  This leads me to believe the BIOS/EC is flawed.

And, while it's great that cooler heads are beginning to raise their voices, the enormity of this very thread will hopefully become the loudest voice.  I encourage all of you to keep posting in this thread so that it becomes the largest thread and consequently the loudes voice there is.  Surely, they won't read through it, but certainly the enormity of it should speak volumes.

Incendently, has anyone bothered to contact the Speedfan dev?  Perhaps we can get a pool of money together to throw his/her way.

The fans in my Yoga switch on at 45 dgr average, and switch off at about 40 average. I can run sometimes up to 20 or 30 minutes without any fans running. I did the update, switched off Bluetooth and my Yoga is a lot more silence (but still not perfect). Did you people have the energy saving settings on passive cooling policy?

Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

I couldn't possibly read every post in this topic, but it sounds like there are two different issues.

1) Some Yogas have a really, really loud fan, from the fan scraping on something inside. I think this is probably very few people and you should exchange your machine.

2) The fans never stop, and are somewhat loud compared to other laptops. This is my issue. The noise level itself would be bearable if it was only running at necessary times. But it's always on. Turning off bluetooth is not an acceptable fix for me, because I use a bluetooth mouse, so I haven't even tried that. By always on, I mean any time the computer is not asleep. If I set it to stay awake with the lid closed, and close the lid (screen turns off) it still runs all night. So, something should be done about that.

Since this topic is so long, can someone offer up what the official fan fix was somewhere in here? I haven't been able to try that to see if it helps on my system.

Incidentally, yes.  I filed a hardware support issue on SpeedFan's issue tracker back in February.  There's been no activity, though maybe if the massed power of the people on this thread politely bother him / offer money, he might be able to make something happen.

Although, the new BIOS supplied by Bloo and disabling Bluetooth services has eliminated the issue for me, personally.  My Yoga is the i5, though, the i7 might make more heat?

If you go back to the very first post, there's a link that says Go to solution.  : )

Cause of really loud fan noises for some people might be a sticker under keyboard. When I was replacing ram from 4 to 8, I removed keyboard, put 8gb of ram, assembled keyboard back, turned Yoga on and noise was really bad. When I removed keyboard again I noticed under keyboard, that very small part of sticker wasnt glued anymore and was touching fan. I removed this sticker and this fixed loud fan.

I'll give it a go. Thanks. I do have the i7 so we'll see if that makes a difference.
