after 71 pages it's clear that Lenovo isn't able or willing to do something about it. Three options:

It looks like other manufacturers also are having problems with fan noise, but perhaps not in the same extent as the Yoga... (New Dell XPS 13 Fan Noise is ridiculous!) http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19439101/20062846.aspx#20062846

I'm wondering if there isn't some problem with Intel's MEI (or even chipset?) drivers/firmware.  Could have something to do with the interaction between the new drivers and the boards that even has the manufacturers scratching their heads.  Has anyone attempted to update to the very latest MEI driver from April 6?  There seems to be a lot more 2-way communication between the OS and the BIOS, probably more than what we may think.

Where do you find that MEI update?

Have you read the last few pages of that thread?  There are reports of not only a lot of attention from Dell to the problem, several BIOS updates over the last few weeks, and reports of their machines eerily QUIET as well.

How can there be such a difference between Dell and Lenovo?

Please shut up then, your whining isn't helping anything. It certainly isn't getting Lenovo to fix the problem any faster.

Put the issue into perspective. I've owned many laptops and virtually all have had faults. I wish the fans would power down but moaning like it's the end of the world isn't going to help.

REMCO, I agree with you on this!  The solution is to never buy Lenovo products again and to let everyone know what a careless company Lenovo is....

Hi all,

thanks for posting you concern and frustration. Undestandably this has been running for sometime and narrowing down the rootcause getting this issue to rectify and test to ensure that the machine does not run into any mishaps was a very challenging and a number of obstacles had to be overcomed. However with your patience, time and feedbacks we managed to accomplish what we set out to do. To those still looking for a solution, one of our team engineers posted the solution previoiusly. To those that have yet to try all this can be found below.

Lenovo has made available a special version of Yoga's Embedded Controller (EC) which contains an alternate thermal table for users who feel the fans are too loud.  This alternate thermal table will delay the initial spin up of the fans, and will spin the fans up to a lower initial RPM than the default EC.

Caveat: While the fans will run less and at a lower RPM with this special EC, this means the system's operational temperature, and therefore surface temperatures, will be somewhat higher.

Below are links to download the special version EC with the alternate thermal table, and to download the default EC with the manufacturing default thermal table, so users may try the special EC, then revert back to the default if desired.

To appy either EC, you will need a USB key (flash drive) that can boot to DOS.  The download files contain step by step instructions for applying the EC.

For advanced users: You will need to switch Boot Mode to Legacy to boot DOS, run EC.BAT, then switch back to UEFI after you have flashed the EC.

NOTE: If you have updated to the special version and experience issues with Intel Rapid Storage Technology, please updateBIOS to version 55 or later.   BIOS 55 may not also include the update to the EC which controls the fan, so updating to this BIOS without first updating from the first link above is unlikely to change fan operation.

If you have yet to try this out please do post back you results
