Thanks works great!   Is there any chance of getting a config file for the U310 IdeaPad (touch)?  It's even louder than the Yoga.  Definitely worth a few beers :)

Re: Yoga 13 Fan Noise

After installing this, the fan problem is totally solved.  Now my batter wont charge.  It's not the battery manaagment issue.  Already set that to max battery life.  Battery is at 8% and shows plugged in not charging.  Not sure if there is any relation or what to do about it.

Can this program be uninstalled or turned off? I've set it back to BIOS controlled and nothing happens.  No change in fan.  Fans never turn on.

Thoughts?

I've had the same problem. Do you mean you changed the power plan in windows?

Changing the battery mode in the Lenovo Energy Management solved the problem for me.

You can access it here (not sure about the exact wording in english):

- Open the power plan options window of Windows

- Select "change power plan settings" on the right of the plan

- Select "more energy settings" at the bottom

- In the new windows select to second tab which says "Lenovo Energy Management" and klick on the button

- The Lenovo Energy Management window will pop up. Select the other mode in the red battery column in the middle (you can change it back afterwards)

After that my Yoga began charging again.

You don't have to change it for every power plan, it's adopted system wide.

NFBC is stopped by simply closing the program (not the window but the process by exiting it at the right click menu of the tray icon). The fans should instantly be controlled by the BIOS.

@jetboy, I've had the same problem. Yoga won't charge and the fans not running no matter what (I was reaching 70 degrees Celsius).

Fortunately this can be solved by reflashing the EC (just follow the instructions for flashing the revised EC Lenovo provided in this thread).

I will give it another go, if I am experiencing problems again I'm afraid there's nothing else left then uninstall Notebook FanControl and start from zero :(.

I let my Yoga batter run to zero and die.  Then plugged in and now it's back to normal.  Not sure what is going on.  It's working now with the fancontrol as it should, fan turning on when it should, etc.  I suspect the two are somewhow related, but I'm not sure how.  Possibly the fan speed not matching some parameter causes the computer to go to a "limp by" mode where it won't charge and terminates the fan power source?

I'll keep using mine and update as I go.

I let my laptop run down to 0 as well and it fixed the issue for me.  I hope the issue does not arise again.  It would not charge and the lapotop always showed 9% even with the energy depleting.

I know I shouldn't do this, but i would really be thankful if someone could help me out.

I haven't been active here for months, so i don't really know what's going on. What is the most current fix and what post is it on? Does it really fix the fan noise?

Thanks again guys. This is a really big thread, and i don't even know where to begin looking. Thanks!

EDIT: I found it. im stupid. :)

Short update:

I've contacted the developer of NFBC and he confirmed he's working on a new version making it possible to control both fans at a time, but it will take some weeks until he finishes the update.

When it's ready to use, I will create the promised hybrid config.

But i will probably create a pseudo hybrid config as far as possible and publish it here until the update is released.

I've been running a week with the notebook fan control. I just made normal shutdown and start. After boot, i got a popup warning from "energy management". There was rather lengthy text saying essentially: levono does not support unauthorized batteries. It may not be able to charge the battery. The battery IS original. Maybe the fan control program makes yoga energy management go paranoid and stop charging?

@kili0fi. I also got this error. Probably your battery also won't charge (mouseover the battery icon). For me it was fixed by reflashing the EC. Apparently draining the battery to 0 also works (haven't tested this myself).

Notebook Fan Control is fiddling with the EC to manipulate the fans and maybe accidentally hitting some other settings it shouldn't i guess.
