Re: Yoga 13 Lag After updating to Windows 8.1

If you have having the issue while in any of the modes where the keyboard is disabled, then it is likely the ymc (Yoga Mode Control) service that is causing it. Ymc is responsible for disabling and enabling the keyboard/mouse. Stopping the service makes the Yoga responsive again (but then the keyboard/mouse will not be disabled).

"I was told by repair (my case had been escalated from the call center to somewhere else in Lenovo) that I can't EXPECT my system to work on anything other that Windows 8, ie. what the computer shipped with"

At least this page mentions that the Yoga 13 comes with Windows 8.1: http://shop.lenovo.com/fi/en/laptops/ideapad/yoga/yoga-13/#techspecs

For me turning off the DPTF had the same effect as disabling YMC, except it didn't screw up the keyboard-disabling function.

In reply to Otso:

Hmm...maybe I'll bring that up when I call the rep again. I was supposed to send in my laptop in a few days ago (I didn't know the exact shipping date was set while talking to the rep, otherwise I would have set a later date), but I had to keep it do do some work. Not sure if it'll do any good, but hopefully they'll stop spreading misinformation.

Thanks.

I disabled the DPTF like suggested and my Yoga is running fine again. But can someone explain to me what DPTF actually does and if it will have a negative impact on my Yoga?

Hey rsapida,

it throttles the power when the device is in the various non-classic modes. However, it might do more. I am still waiting for a statement from Lenovo here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Hey-Lenovo-what-s-up-with-DPTF-amp-Yoga-machines/td-p/1311385

Would you please also post to that thread and tell Lenovo that you have the same question? Thanks.

Cheers,

Sebastian

How did you get an external monitor to work?

I disabled the lenovo transition app and that immediately fixed the lag problem.

Re: Yoga 13 Lag After updating to Windows 8.1

2014-07-07, 20:02 PM

I had the same issues.  Upgraded to Windows 8.1 with my Lenovo Ideapad Yoga 13.  It ran great before the update but I was pulling my hair out after I installed 8.1.  Very slow, very laggy, awful to use.  And I had only updated the OS, I had not re-installed my applications.

It was so bad that I was considering rolling back to Windows 8.  The 8.1 update was driving me crazy. I thought maybe I had a bad machine and would have to turn it back in.

Thankfully I found that hint to uninstall the Intel Thermal Management software. I did not have to go into the BIOS to disable the thermal management system.  Just a simple uninstall and my machine was back running like a champ.

It is crazy that this kind of update could happen.  It is ridiculous that this can continue without some sort of obvious notice from Lenovo and/or Intel on how to mitigate the issue.
