Yoga 13 - Sound quality issues

2013-01-17, 2:01 AM

Hi all, hope someone can help.

I just got he Yoga 13 and I am having some issues with the sound quality and not sure what to do.

Compared to my iphone and other laptop, using the same ear phones, the quality on the Yoga just doesn't even come close.  It sounds very 'tinny' and quite distant for want of better words.  I will listen to the same track, from the same file on my iphone and old machine and the sound is very rich.

I have played with the graphic equalizer, but there just isn't that much change.

Anyone finding the same thing?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so after hours of clicking I found what my problem was.  The dolby surrond sound was enabled... :smileysad:

For some reason, when this is enabled, it makes my swanky Bowers and Wilkins earphones sounds like my nan farting in a glass.  Turned that off and the sounds are super rich again.

Probably when I hook my yoga to the TV the Dolby option will work great, but not tried that yet.

Hello kipper007,

I would first of all update your sound card to make sure it's up to date with the latest drivers.

Second, the Yoga was meant for ultraportability as a laptop/tablet. The sound will not have a subwoofer on it. If you still feel that its an issue with the sound, I would contact Lenovo support and have them replace your sound card/speakers. Hope that helps.

I already checked the driver thanks.  I have the latest one:

Conexant Audio Driver
0tau20ww.exe
88MB
Windows 8 64bit8.54.47.51

And the sound is when I am using ear phones is when there is an issue.  I get that the speakers are super tiny on the unit, but I expected better quality when using ear phones.

Anyone reading this, could they please tell me how the sound from their yoga 13 when using earphones compares to their iphone/mp3 player?

Thanks for the advice. Turning off Dolby brought the sound back. Good solution for an insanely bad preset

I have noticed a slight cracking in the speakers on Internet radio connections at least (perhaps less so on YouTube or other videos).  Is this a problem others have noticed? It does not appear to happen on my desktops or other laptops.

I notice it may be related to opening other windows or clicking links and scrolling etc. Could it be that the speakers, being close to the screen, pick up some interference from them? Thank you for your suggestions.

Had the same issue, loved the computer but the built-in/out-of-the-box sound quality headphone output was unbearable.

Once I turned off the Doulby Sound Equalizer the quality instantly improved.  So much for Doulby Enhanced...

Unfortunately for me I still have the same distant voices even when I turn off the Dolby surround.

I have actually now solved the problem I had. It was down to the Samsung Galaxy S headphones that I was using. Now that I've got a splitter for the headphone jack and tried the sound with my sennheiser headphones the sound is back to normal.
