Yoga 13 Wireless: New Problems

2014-05-24, 13:35 PM

I have had my Yoga 13 ist gen for 18 months.Wireless worked fine before withoccassional slowness or video chppiness.

Suddenly it has started  losing wifi connection and sometimes finding no networks. It requires a restart to reconnect. This problem did not happen in the past. Does anyone else have similar recent symptoms? The driver is the latest version and I am running Windows 8.1 Update. Thank you for your suggestions.

Dear rfin

Welcome in lenovo community

Kindly be informed that you might face this issue because of the upgrade from Win8 to Win8.1 as this machine is not upgradeable to a higher version of windows

But you can try to download and install the latest update of the below Wifi driver and then check if the issue solved or not :-

Let me know

Thanks

Well most of Windows 8.1 appears to work fine and I think I have the latest deriver already or at least device manager says so.

It would not be good for Lenovo's reputation if a machine less than two years old cannot run the latest windows properly as no one will upgrade systems that often to accomodate this problem.

I can confirm Windows 8.1 runs fine on the Yoga 13. Something else you could try is this:
- Try a different router or access point.
- Do a complete factory reset. And perform the Windows 8.1 upgrade again. (Make sure to back-up your data)

Sometimes upgrading to Windows 8.1 can fail somewhere in the background or something can malfunction afterwards. So it's best to try a factory reset and then upgrade again. Don't install any software before you have upgraded to Windows 8.1. After the upgrade make sure to update all drivers to their Windows 8.1 versions using the link from 'Support Specialist @SEAlaa'

Re: Yoga 13 Wireless: New Problems

It's not a new problem, it's a known problem that no one cares to fix and they continue to sell non-working products. I have a Yoga purchased in Feb 2014, it CAME WITH WINDOWS 8.1 INSTALLED! I invested in a brand new computer to keep my business operating smoothly, only to find out I just dumped a ton of money into the worst peice of junk I've ever owned. The intel wireless adapter is "not compatable"?!? Lenovo had me reinstall over the phone, it worked for 8 hours. Next day- no internet. I took it to the point of sale, they went to the Intel website and downloaded the driver again. That worked for another 12 hours. Every time I move locations and have a new access point, the internet doesn't work. So far the only "solution" offered is for me to send in this brand new business investment to be repaired, which could take 3 weeks. Sure, I'll close up shop so ya'll can work on a POS that was sold with faulty/ incompatible/ not yet compatible drivers (I really don't care what the issue is, only that is is a KNOWN ISSUE that Lenovo acts all surprised about). Every service person I've talked to doesn't have a clue what is going on, yet I can go online and find pages and pages of this very same (unresolved) issue!

-different router and access point does not work

-factory reset does not work, you're just reinstalling the same "incompatible" driver (that mine came with, I did not "upgrade" to anything)

-BRAND NEW, internet has  been an issue since before any other programs were installed.

Now my pointer is missing again, so I get to waste another several hours reading through pages of similar issues to try and figure that debacle out. I miss my 15 yr old VAIO!
