Yoga 13 ideapad type 2191 broken keyboard connector

Hello community,

I have a Yoga 13 ideapad type 2191.

I managed to break my keyboard connector (see photo): the black swivel plastic part that clamps down onto the ribbon cable has 1/3 missing.

Several keys no longer work, including space bar and enter.

How can I fix this?

What is the connector type on the board?

Kind thanks.

Re: Yoga 13 ideapad type 2191 broken keyboard connector

They are surface mounted and custom made, so they are not normally available or replaceable without a good rework station.  Sometimes, parts like that can be found.  I have had some luck at Mouser Electronics.

Re: Yoga 13 ideapad type 2191 broken keyboard connector

Thanks Rich

I solved my problem with 3 layers of tape on the ribbon connector, jammed into the socket. Never thought a working space bar would feel so good. Lets see how long it will last.

Re: Yoga 13 ideapad type 2191 broken keyboard connector

Hi ReneGade35,

I don’t have a picture of the fix, but I hope this helps:

The connector has a black pivoting part that clamps down onto the ribbon and maintains a connection. About 1/3 of my black pivot portion broke off (see image in original post). I put tape on the ribbon over the broken part (and over the blue pull tab), to make the ribbon thicker, and wedged it into the connector. Voilà.

The fix has has lasted until now.

If you tape the whole ribbon, you no longer need the black pivot part.

Best of luck.
