Hi,

Have people here tried using a USB network card?  Just curious if that would solve the problem until a driver / software update fixed the real issue.

I tried a USB wireless G adapter. It has mixed results. It improves the strength of the connection, which results in less dropped packets. But if your connection is still bad with the wireless adapter, you still get the weird choking effect.

Could someone from Lenovo please comment?

It's been months, and you have many clients stuck with Yoga 13 laptops that have extremely poor wifi capabilities.

I can't return it anymore, and I can't even sell it to someone without warning them that the wifi is almost non-existant.

Re: Yoga 13 wifi is extremely poor

So I'm back with a 3rd Yoga... (Call me glutton for punishment).

But I have an interesting finding. In addition to remote desktop running smoothly in a virtual machine, it also works using a java based remote desktop application. So whatever is causing the glitches in certain apps (most noticeably Remote Desktop and Citrix applications) is not happening in certain frameworks. I don't know exactly how Java interfaces with the Windows Network architecture, but it appears that Java either bypasses the glitches or transforms the data in such a way that it passes through the windows 8 architecture unharmed. (I still think it is something to do with packet size and how the software handles when part of a large packet is lost at the hardware level).

If you look around you will see that there are other windows 8 laptops that are having similar issues with remote desktop type applications. But those laptops were designed with a better antenna system and are less susceptible to dropped packets.

If I were Lenovo I would do four things asap:

1) Have an engineer post an apologetic message in the forum explaining that they are reading all of our posts and are looking into the matter.

2) Get Microsoft and Realtek on the phone and put together a taskforce to address these issues.

3) Reach out to users that are experiencing issues and involve them in an impromptu beta testing as they try to resolve the issues.

4) Fire whoever suggested putting the antennas in the keyboard and the QA engineer who let this device go out without testing its wifi capabilities in day to day usage.

Then they could figure out some accessory that we could all use and send them to people who registered their laptop before the fix comes out to make us all shut up.

Lenovo,

HELP please! There is no resolution yet, and we are all stuck in the dark with laptops that have almost no wifi.

You would think they would at least acknowledge the issue and give some estimate as to when a fix might be available.  I bought it for wireless access and that is the one fault that it has.  Can you tell us if anyone is working on this before i return it?

I registered for this forum just for this puporse. I just want Lenovo to know that I am returning my Yoga 13 to Best Buy due to the same wifi issues everyone else is having. My 6 year old Dell laptop has 100% stable and better wifi performance than the Yoga. I otherwise love the Yoga. But intermittent disconnects and slow wifi is a deal breaker. If Lenovo fixes this issue before I pull the trigger on a competing laptop, I will give it a try. But I'm not waiting.

Spent all evening testing a few routers and access points with this terrible wifi equipped laptop/tablet. Only thing that works reliably is a 9 year old G access point.

This thing just doesn't want to work with the new standards and equipment. They must have pulled this Realtek card out from the overstock vault.

Re: Yoga 13 wifi is extremely poor

I had problems in my work environment (we run Ubiquiti UniFI access points).  Leaving it on 20/40mhz option helped.  I also changed the antenna number to 2 or 3 (in the wireless card's properties).  What made a big difference for me was changing the dchp lease expiry from 8 days to an hour.  Not sure why, but I am not having any connection issues since then.  I would argue that this might be part of the answer because the Surface RT had a similar problem and I am hearing of other windows 8 devices that also struggle with dropped connections where the signal strength is there, the WIFi indicator says your connected, but you can't even ping the accesspoint/router.  Could it be that Windows 8 drivers are not handling the DCHP properly?
