Re: Yoga 13 wifi is extremely poor

Link to forum with Toshiba laptop owners having similar problems with their Realtek RTL8723a wireless cards.  Unfortunately, I don't think we can swap ours out to Intel cards like they have done since Lenovo's version of the card is using a proprietory connector.

Hello?

Any Lenovo reps here?? Tech support is clueless to this issue.... no one left to help. I am beyond fed up, and stuck with $1,300 paperweight.

Love how these guys took my $1000 dollars now they're pretending they don't know why we're having these difficulties. Makes me feel helpless and incredibly disappointed because I otherwise love the yoga. Too bad I can only watch 240p videos on youtube.

For what it's worth, my experience with the Yoga is just that its wifi is weak and slow. But I never have any of these intermittent drop issues. I'm running with a Netgear R6300, which is admittedly expensive (and the **bleep** thing won't connect to the 5G issue) but it essentially runs fine with it.

Same here. It doesn't drop it's just incredibly slow and the range is literally the worst wifi range I've ever encountered. Can't get full speed even though I'm 9 feet away.

Can anyone figure out how to connect a regular wifi adapter? That would be the best step.

Has anyone bought a Yoga manufactured after feb 2013?

Do you encounter the same issues?

Re: Yoga 13 wifi is extremely poor

I am not sure if this will help anybody else, but it helped my setup. Reception is still a complete joke (every other device has full bars everywhere in the house and this thing has 2 bars more than 10 feet from the router). However, these changes seemed to have helped with the constant disconnects...

  • Add 'classic shell' to get the start menu back
  • Navigate to start>settings>control panel> and then select network and sharing
  • Click on the WiFi connection, then click properties (bottom left) then configure (top right)
  • Go to advanced settings
  • Disable the 'selective suspend' setting
  • Change Wifi Config from 'Performance' to 'WiFi'
  • Change bandwidth to 20mhz

My ping is now 9 instead of 5 but at speedtest.net I now get about 35mbps even with two bars (it's a 250mbps synchronous Webpass connection and the wired desktop gets about 175mbps up and down). I am using a $50 TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND router with an older version of DD-WRT installed (the new version does not support N band with this router so I would recommend keeping stock firmware with this router model).

I have only had an hour of success with these changes, but it was dropping every 5 minutes before the changes and I have gone into sleep twice (which always killed it before) and successfully had wifi upon wake up.

Also, you don't have to restart the system to restore wifi (before changes). Simply open IE and click the 'diagnose connection problems' which resets the card (even if only for 4 minutes). I hope this helps somebody and I hope this change fixes this issue for good on my end...
