Re: Yoga 13 wifi is extremely poor

2012-12-25, 10:05 AM

I have the same horribly frustrating wifi issues. Low number of bars, randomly cannot find internet connections, and sometimes abruptly disconnects.

What I want to know is if they are going to fix this. If it takes a month, two months, whatever - fine. I can wait. What I won't do is wait in the dark, with potentially no solution.

If any Lenovo representatives read this, please understand that I am not the only one that is considering returning the yoga if Lenovo isn't even willing to tell us that they are working on the problem. Nobody wants to keep a $1000 - $1500 machine that cannot connect to the internet. It's a great product other than that, so please help us out and tell us what the deal is, if you are working on a solution, and when that solution will be ready.

Well - I thought I would take another angle to get some response.  Here is the chat transcript.  Maybe it will result in nothing, but it is worth a try:

^: Hello.
Matt: good morning.
^: Good Morning.
^: How may I help you today?
Matt: Please have someone with technical background read the following lenovo forum link both pages one and two:http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-IdeaTab-Slate-Tablets/Yoga-13-wifi-is-extremely-poor/td-p/960163.
Matt: there appears to be no response and i thought this may be a way to move it along.
^: Let me check that for you.
^: Thanks for your time.
^: I will definitely take this as feedback and pass on to the concerned department.
Matt: perhaps they could at least make themselves known to those concerned. a lot of potential for sales involved if you can solve your issues.
^: Sure. Will do that for you Matt.
Matt: have a good day.
^: To ensure that we are always improving our service, you may receive a survey invitation at the end of the chat session to tell us what you think about our products and services. Your feedback will be highly appreciated.

He might be a lower level support stuff and it will talke time to move upward the command line. You can escalate the case to get faster results.

When I read through these forums and see the issues people are having with the Yoga 13 and the persistent lack of support by Lenovo all that I can say is ... Dell XPS 12 is looking real good at this point.

Oh wow I didn't know that Dell had a 1080p screen and it has working WiFI sounds like a good replacement to me. Thanks too bad though I work as the head IT guy for my company and always thought Lenovo's were the way to go but after this experience with no acknowledgement from Lenovo I might change that opinion.

If I had a specfic problem, I would call lenovo for a warrenty service or an exchange. From the posts it seems that not everyone is having wifi problems, and the root cause for the problems is probably different.

That seems to be because it depends weather it's is Wireless N or G. At work we have a G network and at home my network is N. At work on the G network I have a great connection full bars (54mbps) 30 feet away from the router, at home I have 2 bars (13.5mbps) 10 feet from my wireless N router.

So after I got a bluescreen spontaneously, I had to reinstall everything I had already downloaded on my Yoga 13, after only a day of owning it. Now I'm redownloading stuff (League of Legends) and it's downloading anywhere from 50-150 KBps. Is this a Yoga WiFi issue? It was downloading at 1000KBps last night but it was the middle of the night (I would have finished downloading by then but then League crashed). So is this a Yoga wifi issue??

It looks like that the latest wireless driver is not working properly with the latest win 8 updates. Last night (before you did the updates?), the wireless driver was probably ok, but now it is messed up by the updates (both the drivers and the win8).

Is your router Wireless N or just Wireless G. The reason I ask is I get excellent reception with G but with N I get 2 bars at 15 feet and 4/5 bars right next to the router.
