Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

I just got my Yoga 2, and I am really enjoying it, however, I am running into a contant problem of the WiFi connection going 'limited' when connected to the network.  I never lose WiFi connection.

I have updated my driver to the latest version available on the support site (17.0.0.34), and disabled the power managment for the WiFi, as many other posts have suggested.

None of my other devices are having issues.  My router is an Apple Time Capsule.

Try to: Enter BIOS > disable DPTF > save and exit

If that does not work, join us in the following discussion: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Re-Yoga-2-Pro-Wifi-Problems/td-p/1452437

The size and time length of that thread do not inspire hope for a resolution to this issue.

I could not find the option 'DPTF' in the BIOS.

Does this newer driver work for you?
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3716&DwnldID=23944&ProductFamily=Wire...

Also compare your router's settings to the Yoga 2 13's in 'Device Manager', maybe something is conflicting.

Something else to try is disable 'roaming when connected'
Read more here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-8-and-8-1-Knowledge-Base/Debugging-latency-spikes-and-lag-on-cer...
If the key 'ScanningWhenAssociated' doesn't exist, create it, and set its value to '0' and reboot.

Warm regards,

Re: Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

After some experimenting, I believe I found the issue.  My router is an Apple Time Capsule, thanks to my wife.  I supplemented it with a new Linksys router, and made sure to connect only to the new router's wifi.  My issues have gone away.  To ensure connectivity for  my wife's Mac, I put the RTime Capsule in 'Bridge Mode'.

Going on a week now with no further wifi problems with my Yoga.

Re: Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

After weeks without wifi problems I'm experiencing problems again at our holiday home.

The Realtek BGN wifi card has problems connecting to the TL-MR3020 3G-router.

My Samsung S4 connects without any problem ...

After changing the router settings of wireless to G only (as 3G here is max 2 Mbps) I have no more problems.

It seems the problems are caused by a bad N 2,4 GHz implementation.

I can't wait till we are able to install the 7260 AC .....

Re: Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

hi friends,

i had the same issue with my new yoga2 13 and my router is a netgear dualband. I had this solved installing the new intel driver from their website. The version is 17.1. This driver should be available at Lenovo website too.

Re: Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

Please note the Yoga 2 13 was produced with several different WLAN (Bt combo) cards.

Yoga 2 13 WLAN FRU.jpg

Because of the white list in the BIOS we are restricted to use the cards certified by the FCC, as the Yoga 2 13 seem to have a problem complying with SAR (radiation) regulations.

This might be the reasons transmitting power is reduced in the firmware of the WLAN card, leading to worse performance compared to (cheaper) OEM cards with supplier drivers..

  • Realtek RTL8723BE (FRU 04X6025  PN 20200570)
This card seems to have a bad wifi-N implementation, making it hard to connect to several router brands/types.
Putting the card in B/G-only mode solves most of these problems, but the slow speed and still dropping connections are not acceptable for a laptop in this price category.
Driver version 2012.13.402.2014 (download here  thanks to RiWi) solves a lot of problems compared to 2012.4.1022.2013 (dated 2013-11-22) that is the version still advised on the Lenovo driver page ...
If you have this specific card, please send me a PM so I an advise on drivers/routers working best.

Lenovo Yoga2 13 Wifi RTL8723BE PN 20200570.jpg

  • Atheros AR956x (FRU 04X6022  PN 20200558)
Atheros WLAN part of the LiteOn HFA335 combo card. Atheros dual band AR946x cards normally work flawless, but this cheaper serie can not be advised to serious wireless users.
I've tried several access points with this card, but very bad results. Both signal strength and speed are way below the results of all other cards. Worst card supplied by Lenovo in my opinion.
Although I did only test with the Lenovo specified drivers  10.0.0.270 (out)dated 2013-10-17

Atheros956x small.jpg

  • Intel 7260 N  (FRU 04W3830  PN 20200409)
Cheaper single band (only 2.4GHZ) version of the 7260AC. Some driver versions work fine, others give many problems. I use driver version 17.0.2.5 (thanks to Indest) and this seems to work fine.
As these can be obtained for little money (Y2Pro users ditching these cards for the 7260AC) this is a good alternative for the short term, untill the 7260 will be available to us.
    PD97260NGU LCPN 20200409 FRUPN 04W3830 nonAC.jpg

  • Intel 7260 AC (FRU ?  PN 20200617)
This card has been Lenovo OEM now for the last series of the Yoga 2 Pro and the Yoga 2 13 with BIOS version 1.09.
Dual band card so it can use the less congested 5 GHz band and has AC implemented: this provides speeds up to 860 Mbps in combination with an AC router/ access point.

    no picture available untill now

We are waiting for Lenovo to provide us with the FRU and price of this Lenovo SAR specific version of the 7260AC card.

Please do not waste any money on other 7260AC cards, as we have tried most of these cards (see picture below) without any success ...
