Re: Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

2014-11-25, 17:39 PM
I've got the Intel wireless-N 7260. I've installed all the latest drivers from the lenovo site but in device manager the driver is listed as 16.5.3.6, from date 9/19/2013. Seems like it would be newer than that...

The problem isn't really bandwidth. When it is actually making a connection the bandwidth is fine. The problem is the range seems to be really short. The bandwidth drops to almost zero as I move away from the router, and this is true at home, at coffee shops, everywhere, at distances that my iPhone 6 (on wifi) or my old laptop had no problem with.

Not sure what is going on...

Re: Yoga 2 13 (20344) WiFi Issues

The latest released drivers from the Lenovo support site (Kona) are 17.0.3.3

They should be dated 2014-05-26.

Resuming several posts in different topics, wifi problems can be caused by (short recap):

  • Loose antenna connectors
Quality assurance seems not 100% for these connectors, as several people have solved their problems just bij opening the Yoga and pressing the antenna connectors firmly to the card.

  • Wrong or older drivers
For all cards (at least Realtek and Intel) Lenovo has released river updates that fixed several issues.
Sometimes they are hard to find, as the latest RTL8723BE drivers were not updated on the Yoga 2 13 page ...
Search this forum for   2012.16.0523.2014  dated 2014-06-20
The Intel 7260N single band drivers are updated on the Lenovo support site.

  • Incompatible routers or access points
It looks like the implementation of wifi N is not always compatible with different brands/ types of routers.
This leads to not being able to connect, connection drops or slow transfer speeds.
The Lenovo solution is to buy a new router (everywhere you use your mobile Yoga?), I think they should improve the combination of their BIOS and the firmware/drivers of both combo cards.

  • Energy settings
It seems many problems occur if power management reduces the energy for the WLAN card, even temporary.
Just make sure power is always maximal, so that you take one possible cause away.

After Lenovo introduced a special 20200617 version of the 7260AC called SAR I realized that the position of the antennas might cause more FCC radiation issues as they are closer to the user while typing. This is different from e.g. de Yoga2pro.

Reducing the transmission power in firmware or drivers or choosing less performing cards reduces the liability for Lenovo, but also seems to destroy our range ..

Lenovo released newer drivers: v 17.0.5.8

I've tested these for a few days.

They're fine for the N7260N, not for 7260AC as it loses the AC ...

Only to be found on the Yoga3Pro support page.

Click Show All at the bottom of that page ...

We are in the process of investigating this, and re-ordering the part.

Again, once I have the card, I can update this thread.  Until I do, I'm not sure what else I can say about it as I've shared the information made available to me on this topic.

Mark

Almost a month later, is the card available and confirmed/approved?

Mischa213 / Emerex,

I was traveling for business during Dec and just returned.  Yes, the part came in, was installed and tested ok.

Here is the photo of the correct card bearing the FRU that I previously provided.

Probably yes, as the HardwareID is in the (longer) white list of the Y2Pro BIOS.

But as it is a SAR specific version, the transmitting power will be reduced.

So with the Y2Pro antennas you will have less signal strenght, worse coverage and also lower data speeds.

And prices are likely to be higher than the other available and working 7260AC cards, like the Anazon one.

See the Y2Pro topic for more versions of the 7260AC card:

Mark,

Maybe start a new topic with this 20200617 and make it sticky for a few weeks so this important info is not so hidden for new people visiting the forum.

Also add some info like availability, drivers to be used, link to the HMM, warranty and pricing?

Strange to see the FRU is 20200xxx number, as mostly this is valid for the LCPN.

FRU normally consists of 2 numbers, 1 letter and more numbers; that's the info resellers are asking for ...
