Re: Yoga 2 13 Internals

2014-08-21, 3:20 AM

I just tried using EaseUS Todo Backup Free to clone my 500/16 hybrid had drive to a 256GB Crucial M550. It didn't work right.

This is a new Yoga 2 13. I see 6 partitions on the original hard drive:

1000 MB  Recovery Partition

260 MB  EFI System Partition

1000 MB  OEM Partition

423 GB  Windows8_OS Partition C:

25 GB  LENOVO Partition D:

14 GB  Recovery Partition

Does anyone know what all these partitions are for? I elected to clone the whole drive and let EaseUS resize the partitions, which it did poorly.

EDIT: I tried again using Farstone DriveClone (free) which worked great. I now have a Yoga2 13 with a 256 GB SSD and 500 GB hard drive for media storage.

I have been running my Yoga 2 13 Best Buy edition for about a week now, really liking it so I decided to swap out the 128GB SSD that came with the yoga to the Crucial M500 240GB M.2 6gb/s ssd.

The ssd migration went very smoothly no problems.

Yet with the new Crucial installed now I have taken a heavy performace hit.

According to Crystal Disk Mark my Seq Reads are down to 245 MB/s and my Writes are at 199 MB/s

Almost half the speed of the OEM 128GB SSD that came with the Yoga.

Does this sound right? Why is my SSD running so slowly?

Thanks

The M500 is older slower tech.  The write is especially slow.  The M550 is much faster especially in the write speed.  I have the 128GB and it is about 480 read /  340 write.  And the M550 256 has a faster write than the 128.

I would assume that this newer Y 2 13 has a newer tech SSD also.  That would account for its speed.  Last year's Y2 Pro SSDs had some slower ones.

I am such an idiot, I just ordered the m550 version. Oh well I will use my m500 as an external USB3 drive.

Glad to be of help.  That external USB drive will be fast.  I have one of the new PNY Turbo Flash 128GB drives and it only goes to 180/90 in read/write speed.

Changelog states:

Modified:
1. Enable LTR.
Add:
1. Implement SSD/HDD detect to fill RX EQ setting.

Can anyone describe what those things actually do?

I just bought the newst version of Yoga 2 13 from BB with I5-U4210/8G DDR/128 M.2 SSD. Just realize that original 128 Gb is definitely not enough,  the Win8 system and my regular softwares eat almost half of the disk space, only lefting ~ 60 Gb for my data. Not good and i want to upgrate it.

Lerning from here, looks like to use the empty HDD slot is not that easier, need to find the special connector things. So i am thinking to buy a larger 512Gb M.2 drive and replace the existing 128 Gb one, which is NGFF mSATA type (LITEON LGT - 128M6G).

The new M.2 SSD i want to buy is:

Crucial M550 512GB SATA M.2 Type 2280 Internal Solid State Drive CT512M550SSD4

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-512GB-Internal-Solid-CT512M550SSD4/dp/B00ITFZTHC/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408552100&sr=1-10&keywords=msata+ssd+512gbBefore i actually do this i want confirm it is possible. Will this one works for Yoga 2 13? Since this drive has a SATA interface, while the original LITEON one has a NGFF connection? I believe they are the same because the picture and the size for the two looks exactly the same (here is the original one:http://www.super-laptop-parts.com/new-ssd-for-liteon-lgt128m6g-m2-ngff-128gb-msata-p-24771.html ) Has any one tried this out? I hope it will not make my computer slower. Thanks for you comments.

Looks the right size and connector (from this figurehttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249045&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleKWLess&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleKWLess-_-IM-_-Solid+State+Disk-_-N82E16820249045&gclid=CL_Wur3bp8ACFbTm7AodHhwAAQ), no idea why it dooesn't work? The only thing is that its interface is PCI-Express 2.0 x2, not sure if it is the right interface for Yoga 2 13

Does it show up in your BIOS?

If so, did you initialize it using Windows Disk Management?
